Denise Richards Tries Salmon Sperm Facial Inspired By Aniston

After seeing Jennifer Aniston take the plunge, Richards shares her own experience with the unconventional beauty treatment.

Denise Richards has joined the ranks of celebrities embracing unconventional beauty treatments with her recent venture—a salmon sperm facial. The 54-year-old star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills shared her experience after learning about the treatment from fellow actress Jennifer Aniston, who reportedly received the facial earlier this year.

"I did do the salmon sperm facial. It was good," Richards told People, adding humorously, "I had to after I heard Jennifer Aniston did it. Who's not going to do it?" Though initially skeptical about the procedure, Richards was convinced by Aniston's endorsement. "I was like, 'If she did it, I’ll do it,'" Richards remarked, emphasizing her preference for subtle enhancements over drastic alterations. "I am not one who does a bunch of stuff... I try to [be] subtle," she explained, highlighting her cautious approach to beauty treatments.

The salmon sperm facial, technically known as polynucleotide treatment, has garnered fame through various celebrity endorsements. Renowned dermatologist Dr. Deshan Sebaratnam elaborates on the treatment for 9honey, explaining it involves injecting polynucleotides derived from salmon sperm directly beneath the skin. This novel treatment aims to promote cell renewal and boost collagen production.

According to Dr. Sebaratnam, some potential benefits of the treatment include improving skin hydration, enhancing collagen levels, and elasticity, thereby assisting with the reduction of wrinkles. "It's marketed for rejuvenation around the eye," he said, distinguishing it from more conventional solutions like Botox, which focuses on relaxing the muscles to diminish wrinkle appearance.

Richards isn't alone on this beauty adventure, as Kim Kardashian also publicly discussed receiving the same facial. "I got a salmon sperm facial with salmon sperm injected directly to my face," she revealed on her reality series. Their flair for trying innovative treatments has not only piqued curiosity but invited scrutiny over the efficacy and safety of such treatments.

So why the increased interest? The treatment, which was first approved for use in Asia back in 2014, has only recently made its entrance to beautician clinics down under, thanks to the celebrity culture surrounding its popularity. Dr. Sebaratnam details, "It has gotten popular because Jen Aniston and Kim Kardashian have spoken about it."

Despite the buzz, the long-term impact of the salmon sperm facial remains poorly understood. Dr. Sebaratnam admits to being cautious, stating, "I like to know what the patient experience is," but remarked he saw little to no noticeable effects personally following his own experience with the treatment. "I'm still in my thirties so to be honest, I didn't notice much," he said, pointing out the exploratory nature of the procedure still being relatively fresh.

With beauty trends shifting rapidly, it remains to be seen whether treatments like salmon sperm facials will solidify their presence within the industry or fade away as fleeting fads. For stars like Denise Richards, trying out the latest methods seems part of the allure of celebrity life, bringing both excitement and the chance for reinvention.

One thing appears certain: as long as influencers continue to showcase unique treatments, interest will likely thrive, paving the way for more unconventional forms of self-care to emerge.
