DeNA And SoftBank Complete Player Trade Deal

Harukazu Hamaguchi and Daiki Mimori exchanged amid strategic roster changes.

On the 23rd, the DeNA baseball team announced the exchange of pitcher Harukazu Hamaguchi with SoftBank Hawks infielder Daiki Mimori, marking the latest significant transaction within Japan's professional baseball leagues.

This trade is noteworthy as both players were instrumental to their respective teams. Harukazu Hamaguchi, 29, who joined DeNA as the first draft pick from Kanagawa University back in 2017, has built his reputation as a talented southpaw. During his rookie year, he recorded an impressive ten wins, earning the Newcomer Special Award. Over his eight years with DeNA, he has collected 44 wins from 135 games, maintaining a career ERA of 3.76. This season, he made 11 appearances, achieving two wins and four losses with a 3.25 ERA.

On the other hand, Daiki Mimori, 25, entered the league after being selected as the fourth pick by SoftBank from Aomori Yamada High School during the 2017 draft. A versatile infielder known for his agility and batting skill, Mimori has faced challenges due to injuries over the past season. Despite playing only 25 games this year, he has shown potential with his career statistics, including a .252 batting average, 15 home runs, 93 RBIs, and 56 stolen bases across 363 games.

The motivation behind this exchange seems to align with each team's strategic goals, as DeNA desires to bolster its position players' roster, whereas SoftBank is focused on enhancing its pitching options, especially with the upcoming season on the horizon.

Mimori expressed his feelings about the trade, stating, "When I received the notification, I was honestly taken aback. But I viewed this as an opportunity, and it invigorated me to tackle this new challenge. Having played for the strong Hawks team will only serve to benefit my career moving forward." He added, "I cherished my time at SoftBank and learned immensely, especially from the tension of competing for the league championship two years ago."

Hamaguchi also shared his thoughts, stating, "I was surprised by the trade, but I had been prepared for the possibility for some time now. My eight years with the BayStars have been filled with invaluable experiences. I might not have always lived up to expectations, but the support from fans has greatly fueled my efforts. I wish both teams well and hold hope for the BayStars to secure the league title next season.”

The trade exemplifies the dynamic nature of professional baseball, where player exchanges are frequent as teams assess their rosters and strategize for impending seasons. This agreement is significant for both DeNA and SoftBank Hawks as they prepare for new challenges, seeking to solidify their performances on the field.
