Delhi University Releases Guidelines For UG Admissions 2025

The university emphasizes CUET scores alignment with Class 12 studies for a smooth admission process.

The University of Delhi (DU) has laid out key guidelines for students applying for undergraduate (UG) programs for the 2025-26 academic year, emphasizing the role of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) scores in the admission process. According to the DU UG 2025 Information Bulletin, students need to choose subjects for the CUET UG exam that align with those studied in their Class 12 curriculum from a recognized educational board. This critical alignment is not merely a suggestion; it's a requirement as students prepare to embark on their higher education journey.

In its newly released information brochure, DU has made it clear that applicants must take the CUET (UG) - 2025 in subjects similar to their Class 12 studies. In scenarios where a subject from Class 12 is not available in the CUET, students must select a related subject and ensure that at least 50% of the syllabus matches that of the corresponding Class 12 subject. For example, if students studied Physics in Class 12, they should opt for Physics in the CUET UG exam or a closely related subject.

Additionally, the university outlined that students who have completed Class 12 from either a recognized Indian board or an equivalent international board acknowledged by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) are eligible to apply. However, specific exemptions apply: students from the School of Open Learning (SOL), the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), and foreign nationals are not required to take CUET UG for admission.

As part of an important update for the upcoming admissions, DU noted a significant change in the number of subjects candidates can select for the CUET. Candidates can now choose five subjects, reduced from the previous number of six selections. These subjects can be chosen from a pool of 23 domain subjects across any stream, regardless of what students studied in Class 12.

In light of recent developments, candidates planning to apply for DU UG admission in 2025 should be aware that the registration process for these exams will tentatively commence in the last week of February 2025. The CUET PG registration window for postgraduate courses has already closed, with examinations scheduled for March 13 to March 31, 2025. There’s urgency for prospective students; thus, it's crucial to stay informed regarding timelines and procedural updates.

The registration guidelines for CUET UG 2025 are designed to facilitate a smooth application process. A correction window will also be available for applicants to modify specific details of their application forms. These changes might include personal information and subject choices as students work to align their submissions accurately with the requirements of the DU admission portal.

More than just academics, DU's admissions process aligns subject selection with Class 12 eligibility criteria. Candidates must pick at least one language subject when opting for CUET and closely follow the guidelines to avoid mismatched selections that may lead to application rejections. For example, a student who studied Economics in Class 12 but chooses to appear for History in CUET UG will find that their History score will not be considered in the admissions process.

To ensure proper consideration for admissions, all candidates must complete the CUET UG 2025 registration, followed by the CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) UG 2025 registration after the CUET results are announced. DU will only accept applications through this system; alternative applications are not permitted.

As candidates look towards selecting CUET subjects, they should be mindful of the program-specific eligibility criteria. For instance, students aiming for a B.Com (Hons.) must have completed Mathematics or Accountancy in their Class 12 studies and also choose relevant CUET subjects. Similarly, those pursuing a B.Sc (Hons.) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics need to have studied Mathematics, while aspiring Biological Sciences students must appear for a language paper with merit calculated based on their scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB).

DU’s admissions process includes dedicated seat allocation through the CSAS UG 2025 portal, which will be activated once CUET results are available. Candidates, including those who took a gap year, are equally eligible to apply. The university offers 79 UG courses across 69 colleges, making for a diverse and fulfilling educational opportunity for students.

DU remains committed to ensuring a fair and efficient admissions process, using the CUET UG scores as the basis for selection and merit evaluation. With these developments, prospective students are encouraged to prepare adequately, stay informed, and ensure compliance with the admission guidelines to secure their positions in one of the country's reputed institutions.
