Yoshiike explained, "In the first game, combat was designed around the idea of ‘how best to escape,’ but this time, we’ve designed missions and enemy bases to let players enjoy three main choices: escaping using stealth, engaging enemies actively in combat, or avoiding confrontation altogether by traversing rough, inaccessible terrain.”
One of the key phrases driving the design of Death Stranding 2 is “choice.” This concept extends to player customization, allowing gamers to modify Sam’s appearance, gear, and skills through the new APAS Enhancement system. Players will also have to make strategic decisions in response to natural phenomena and other unexpected events within the game, relying on their skills, tools, or assistance from other players via the SSS (Social Strand System).
Environmental dynamics are a significant focus in this sequel. Yoshiike noted, “For example, we wanted to make rivers flood in real time in the first game, but couldn’t. This time, we’ve managed to make it happen.
