Greek vehicle owners are cautioned as the deadline for the 2025 vehicle tax payment approaches, with the government confirming no extensions will be granted. The cut-off date is set for December 31, 2024, and the Ministry of National Economy and Finance is urging timely payments to avoid increasing penalties.
According to the Ministry's announcement, the payment process can be conducted easily via the myAADE digital platform, available to all users with necessary credentials. Owners can check their payment codes through this portal. Upon completion of the payment, late submissions will incur specific penalties based on their timing.
"Φέτος δεν θα δοθεί καμία παράταση στην πληρωμή των τελών κυκλοφορίας, καθώς εδώ και αρκετούς μήνες ισχύει το νέο σύστημα κλιμακωτών προστίμων" (This year, no extension will be granted for the payment of road taxes, as the new system of incremental penalties has been effective for several months), stated the Ministry of Finance.
The increment of penalties is structured as follows: if payment is finalized by January 31, 2025, there will be an additional 25% charge on the total vehicle tax. By February 2025, the extra cost increases to 50%, and failing to pay by March 1, 2025, will result in the doubling of the owed tax amount.
"Εάν η καταβολή ολοκληρωθεί έως και την 31η Ιανουαρίου 2025, οι κάτοχοι υποχρεούνται να πληρώσουν επιπλέον 25% το ποσό των τελών κυκλοφορίας 2025" (If payment is made by January 31, 2025, holders are obliged to pay an additional 25% of the 2025 vehicle tax amount), according to the Ministry.
Faced with this pressing deadline, vehicle owners also have another option: they can declare their vehicles as digitally immobilized. This procedure exempts them from paying vehicle tax for 2025, provided the declaration is filed before the December 31 deadline.
The new system aims to lessen the financial burden of those who, for various reasons, might pay their taxes later within the allowed timeline. By penalizing those who wait until the deadline, the government hopes to streamline their tax collection process.
With the 2025 vehicle tax payment deadline looming, it is imperative for vehicle owners to prepare and act quickly to avoid punitive measures. Information on payment methods and procedures can be easily accessed via the myAADE portal and auxiliary apps.
It is clear: timely payment is not only about compliance but can also significantly affect your financial stress levels come the new year. Vehicle owners should take this warning seriously if they intend to avoid added taxes and penalties. Time is running out!
