DC Studios Celebrates Superman Day With New Film Featurette

Behind-the-scenes video showcases cast and reveals new characters for upcoming Superman movie

In celebration of Superman Day, DC Studios has released an exciting behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming Superman movie directed by James Gunn. This film marks a significant moment in the DC Universe (DCU) as it serves as the first live-action entry specifically created for the new DCU.

The featurette, which runs for 2 minutes and 15 seconds, gives fans a glimpse of the production process, showcasing Gunn working alongside the cast and crew. Among the stars featured are David Corenswet, who takes on the iconic role of Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Also appearing are Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, among others.

Set to premiere on July 11, 2025, the film will introduce various beloved characters from the Superman lore, including Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Cat Grant, Steve Lombard, Eve Teschmacher, and Krypto the Superdog. Rumors suggest that the film will also feature the first appearance of Supergirl, portrayed by Milly Alcock, who will subsequently star in her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The new featurette celebrates Superman Day, which commemorates the release of Action Comics #1 on April 18, 1938, where the character first appeared. This year, DC Studios took the opportunity to not only showcase the film but also unveil new merchandise, including posters, apparel, and Funko Pop! figures.

In the video, Gunn expresses his vision for the character, stating, “This character is noble, and he’s beautiful.” He aims to portray Superman as a figure who embodies compassion and an unwavering belief in the goodness of humanity. Corenswet, stepping into the role for the first time, adds, “It’s the beginning of a new adventure and a whole new universe.”

The behind-the-scenes footage also highlights various filming locations, including scenes shot in Atlanta, Norway, and Cleveland. Notable Cleveland landmarks, such as Public Square and The Arcade, double as Metropolis in the film. Viewers can spot familiar sights, including the Huntington Building and the Howard M. Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse, as Corenswet’s Superman is seen lifting heavy objects amid chaos.

As the featurette unfolds, it showcases the impressive practical effects used in the film, including the physical Superman robots and the design of Lex Luthor's armored soldiers, which closely resemble the Lexosuits from the comics. The footage also provides a closer look at the costumes for Hawkgirl and Metamorpho, with Carrigan’s character confirmed to utilize a blend of makeup and visual effects.

James Gunn's vision for Superman is said to explore the complexities of Clark Kent's dual identity as he navigates his Kryptonian heritage while embracing his human upbringing. The film promises to be a fresh take on the superhero, blending epic action, humor, and heart to deliver a narrative that resonates with audiences.

As excitement builds for the film's release, fans can look forward to more promotional content, including a full trailer expected to drop in the coming weeks. With the anticipation surrounding the film and its characters, it seems the new DC Universe is gearing up for a promising future.

In summary, DC Studios' Superman is set to soar into theaters this summer, marking a new chapter in the Man of Steel's storied legacy. As the world celebrates Superman Day, the film's release is poised to reignite interest in the iconic superhero, bringing a modern interpretation to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
