Davina McCall Shares Recovery Journey After Brain Surgery

TV presenter updates fans on her health and reflects on the support she has received during recovery

Davina McCall, the beloved British television presenter, is on the mend following her recent surgery to remove a benign brain tumour, and she has quite the story to share about her challenges and recovery. Just shy of three weeks post-surgery, the 57-year-old has been vocal about her experiences and the support she has received from family, friends, and fans.

Recently, McCall graced her Instagram followers with updates on her recovery, where she expressed gratitude and shared the hurdles she still faces. After undergoing surgery to excise what was identified as a colloid cyst, she described feeling “stronger and stronger” every day. Despite her optimism, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. McCall has openly candid about dealing with short-term memory issues, which she candidly referred to as “a bit remiss.”

"It's been mad," she conveyed, emphasizing how much love and support she has received during this trying period. McCall said, "It's nice to be home," signifying her relief after spending time away from her familiar surroundings. Throughout her recovery, she has been hard at work focusing on resting and sleeping, believing strongly in the healing power of sleep. "If I feel confused or have trouble concentrating, I just go to sleep, and when I wake up, I'm completely renewed and refreshed," she explained. This simple yet effective strategy has become central to her healing process.

Continuing her recovery at home, McCall has been under the attentive care of her boyfriend, Michael Douglas, and her stepmother, Gabby. Douglas has been actively updating fans during McCall's recovery, conveying the emotional rollercoaster they have both been experiencing. He reassured the public during a livestream, stating, "She’s definitely out of the woods," and noting how important sleep has been for her recovery. "Her body is naturally forcing her to rest," he remarked, highlighting her newfound routine of catching up on rest with afternoon naps and early nights.

McCall’s surgery came after she discovered the cyst during what was supposed to be a routine health scan, following a talk about menopause. Initially thinking she would ace the health screening, she felt blindsided upon receiving this unexpected diagnosis. Colloid cysts are quite rare, occurring only three times per million people, and they grow slowly. This led her to undergo craniotomy, where part of her skull was temporarily removed for the procedure.

McCall’s partner expressed concern for her progress but maintained optimism about her condition, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Following her six-hour surgery, McCall shared how emotional the experience was for her, describing it as “incredible”. She continues to reflect on her situation with gratitude; "When something happens like this, I feel so grateful," she said during one of her updates.

"I've always been grateful, but right now I feel unbelievably grateful," she continued, highlighting her reflections on life after facing adversity. She even elaborated on the importance of her stepmother’s presence during this time, saying, "big up to step-mums; she’s been an amazing rock my whole life." This shows how relationships can buffer stressful times, as McCall touches on the depth of her appreciation for support from loved ones.

Despite her health challenges, McCall is incredibly thankful for the well-wishes and messages pouring in from fans and colleagues alike. She describes feeling lucky, sharing her determination to return to work by mid-January. McCall has also hinted at continuing her duties, such as her weekly podcast, which she adamantly refuses to pause because of her health scare.

On social media, she stated, "I’m on the mend, I’m resting, I’m sleeping loads, I feel really good," alongside expressing hope to be back at work soon. This steadfast outlook has undoubtedly touched her audience and inspired many who resonate with her experiences. McCall is also known for her advocacy surrounding menopause awareness, and her experience might bring even more attention to the importance of women’s health issues.

The former hostess of iconic reality shows, like Big Brother, continues to occupy the hearts and minds of her followers with her resilience and honesty through struggles. McCall's career has met various peaks; her influence extends not just through her TV presence but also with her now-published works on menopause, where she encourages open conversations about women's experiences. Her commitment to this important cause only solidifies her place not just as a television personality but as a powerful advocate for women's health.

Davina McCall's current phase of recovery might be complicated, but she is anchoring herself with positivity, love, and the undeniable support of those around her. Her story speaks volumes about the power of community and the importance of being proactive about health.
