David Vannucci Presents New Book On Prison Camps

Exploring the historical narratives of British prisoners during World War II

The book presentation of "Veano, la prigione della libertà" by David Vannucci is set to take place on March 17, 2025, at 18:00 at PalabancaEventi, located on Via Mazzini, Piacenza. The event is organized by Banca di Piacenza and will feature the author engaging in conversation with journalist Emanuele Galba.

This new work published by Edizioni Tip.Le.Co. has been prefaced by Carla Antonini, the director of the Isrec-Istituto di storia contemporanea di Piacenza. It narrates the historical experiences of the p.g. 29 camp within the scenic Villa Alberoni, detailing the audacious escape on September 10, 1943. The book also compiles the biographical accounts of British prisoners who were detained during World War II.

"Veano, la prigione della libertà" marks Vannucci's third significant contribution to literature on prison camps located in the Piacenza vicinity during the Second World War. With a professional background as Lieutenant Colonel of the Arma dei Trasporti e Materiali dell’Esercito, currently serving at Polo Nazionale Rifornimenti of Piacenza, Vannucci’s expertise adds depth to the historical narrative.

The event not only celebrates Vannucci’s scholarly work but also emphasizes the importance of remembering local histories associated with global conflicts. The presentation aims to shed light on past injustices faced by individuals during wartime, helping to maintain the collective memory through storytelling.

Copies of the book will be available for attendees, particularly for those who have made advance reservations. Interested readers can secure their own copies by registering before the location potentially sells out. Reservations are required and can be arranged through email or by calling Banca di Piacenza during specified hours.

To reserve your spot, please email [email protected] or call 0523 542441 between 9-13 or 15-17 from Monday to Friday. Don’t miss the chance to engage with history and explore the narratives of those who lived through these significant times.

For history enthusiasts and the community alike, the presentation of "Veano, la prigione della libertà" promises to deliver not only informative insights but also promote discussions about resilience and the human experiences of war. Attend this event to gain new perspectives and learn more about the nuanced background of this period.

This event symbolizes more than just the launch of another book; it serves as tribute to those who have endured the trials of confinement during war, reminding us of the past’s indelible imprint on our history and culture.
