Danish Royal Family Skips Women's Handball EM Final

Kulturminister Also Absent to Celebrate Daughter’s Birthday

The Danish women's national handball team faces Norway in the EM final, but will do so without the support of the Danish Royal Family, confirmed by Dansk Håndbold.

Despite past attendances, especially during men’s matches, the Royal Family has opted out of this significant event. Fans had hoped to see royal figures cheering the team on, but sources indicate no members of the Danish or Norwegian royal families will be present at Wiener Stadthalle for the highly anticipated game.

Previously, King Frederik has shown solidarity with the male teams by attending various championships, including the VM final held this year. Interestingly, the last time the Danish women faced Norway at the EM final, the royal family was also absent from the stands, highlighting a pattern of non-attendance during women’s handball finals.

Adding to the absence from the stands is culture minister Jakob Engel Schmidt, who announced via Instagram his reason for missing the event. This reaffirms the common occurrence of governmental officials prioritizing personal commitments over public events.

The absence of the royals and the culture minister leaves the final as notable not only for the sporting contest itself but for the lack of any regal presence to bolster team spirits. Fans and team members alike may feel the missed excitement of having the Royal Family present during such pivotal moments.

With the stakes high and both teams vying for the championship title, the focus remains on the players’ performances. The Danish women's team, having overcome numerous hurdles throughout the tournament, stands ready to battle for gold against their traditional rivals.

The matchup between Denmark and Norway is expected to draw significant attention, and the arena will surely be full of supporters eager to witness either team claim victory. The absence of royal applause may leave some feeling disheartened, yet the lively crowd will surely provide the energy needed to propel the teams forward.

Both teams have achieved remarkable success to reach this final, and fans around Europe will be glued to their screens as the title is contested. Whether it’s Danish jubilation or Norwegian elation, one thing is for sure: the athletes will be giving it their all, regardless of who is cheering from the sidelines.

A sense of camaraderie among the players will fill the arena, perhaps making up for the absence of royal presence. The excitement for the game is at its peak, and regardless of the outcome, it promises to be memorable for both teams.
