Daniel Craig Shifts Focus To Family Life After Bond

The actor embraces home life as he transitions from the iconic role of James Bond.

Daniel Craig, known for his iconic role as James Bond, is spending more time at home following the conclusion of his tenure as the famed British spy. After starring in his final Bond film, "No Time to Die," in 2021, the actor has shifted his focus to family life, particularly since the birth of his daughter, Grace, in 2018. In November 2024, Craig shared in an interview with The New York Times, "I have a six-year-old daughter at home, and I don’t want to be away from home as much as I used to be." This sentiment reflects his desire to balance his career with his responsibilities as a father.

Despite his retreat from the high-octane world of Bond, Craig remains active in film. His latest project, "Queer," premiered in German cinemas in early January 2025. Craig's career skyrocketed with the release of "Casino Royale" in 2006, which marked his first appearance as Bond. He had already made a name for himself in the UK, notably through his role in the BBC series "Our Friends in the North" back in 1996. Reflecting on his decision to take the Bond role, Craig stated in a 2007 interview with Interview Magazine, "When I took the Bond job, I did it to change my life. I knew it would turn everything upside down." Yet, he emphasized that he never pursued films for money, but rather for the passion of acting.

As Craig transitions into this new chapter, his living arrangements reveal a blend of luxury and comfort. He and his former girlfriend, film producer Satsuki Mitchell, purchased a property near Regent's Park in Camden, London, in 2008 for £4 million (approximately $5 million). This residence was reportedly sold in 2011 for £4.05 million. In 2009, while starring in the Broadway play "A Steady Rain" alongside Hugh Jackman, Craig rented a high-rise apartment in the Park Imperial Tower in Manhattan for a staggering $38,000 a month. The apartment featured three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and was designed by interior designer Jarret Yoshida, who incorporated a Japanese garden aesthetic into the space.

In June 2010, Craig and Mitchell invested around $1.8 million in a duplex studio in Tribeca, which they purchased in cash to win a bidding war. This apartment, characterized by its six-meter high ceilings and three terraces, was sold in 2015 for $2.9 million. After marrying actress Rachel Weisz in a private ceremony in 2011, Craig moved into her four-story Victorian house in Primrose Hill, London. The couple is currently residing in this home with their daughter Grace. In 2023, they applied for permission to renovate the historic property, which was originally bought for £3.3 million (about $4.2 million).

Craig and Weisz sought a residence in the United States as well, purchasing a $6 million apartment in New York City’s East Village in 2012. The apartment boasts a spacious 300 square meters, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms, with a private elevator leading to a large open-plan living area. It features panoramic windows that offer stunning views of the city. The couple sold this apartment in 2019 for the same price they paid.

In early 2018, Craig acquired a brownstone in Brooklyn's Cobble Hill for $6.75 million. This expansive townhouse, built in 1901, spans five floors and approximately 613 square meters, providing ample space for their growing family with six bedrooms and six bathrooms. The property was previously damaged by a fire while owned by British author Martin Amis but underwent extensive renovations, allowing Craig and Weisz to customize their family home with modern amenities including an elevator, a rooftop terrace, and a backyard garden.

For a peaceful retreat from city life, Craig and Weisz have a property in Ulster County, New York, which Weisz purchased in 2008 for around $2.1 million. This expansive estate features about 50 acres of land and a historic stone colonial house dating back to 1785. The house includes four bedrooms and three bathrooms, along with unique architectural elements, a library, and a kitchen with double-height ceilings. A barn and pond also enhance the property’s charm.

Meanwhile, in the world of cinema, another name is making headlines. Ranbir Kapoor, a Bollywood star, is rumored to be in talks for a key role in the next James Bond film, which will be directed by Hollywood's Michael Bay. Reports from Tellychakkar indicate that initial discussions have taken place between Kapoor and the production company, marking a potential debut for the actor in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Should the engagement be confirmed, Kapoor would join a cast that may include Ana de Armas, who is expected to reprise her role as Paloma from "No Time to Die," and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Filming is speculated to begin no earlier than June 2025, with this installment of the Bond franchise possibly rebooting the series, setting the story back to the 1950s or 1960s. This shift aims to present a younger interpretation of the iconic MI6 agent, diverging from Craig's darker portrayal.

As of now, official confirmations regarding Kapoor's involvement remain elusive, with both his and Bay's management teams remaining silent on the speculation. Kapoor, the son of legendary actor Rishi Kapoor, is currently busy filming for Nitesh Tiwari's "Ramayana" and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Love and War." In his personal life, he enjoys a happy family life with his wife, actress Alia Bhatt, and their young daughter, Raha.

As both Craig and Kapoor navigate their respective paths in the film industry, their stories highlight the evolving landscape of cinema, where the legacies of iconic characters continue to inspire new generations of actors and audiences alike.
