Damietta Port Marks Significant Cargo Movements And Global Ship Arrival

The Egyptian port showcases its readiness and efficiency in handling large shipping volumes and various goods.

Damietta Port in Egypt has shown remarkable operational readiness, receiving the global container ship LUDWIGSHAFEN EXPRESS, and exporting a noteworthy volume of cargo on March 23, 2025. Underlining the port’s capability, it handled 10 ships in and out during the last 24 hours, with a cumulative total of 35 vessels at dock.

According to Louay Bahr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Damietta Port Authority, the successful handling of such significant shipping traffic demonstrates the efficiency of the authority’s employees and the port's facilities. “The readiness of the port's facilities and the efficiency of the authority's employees to receive large ships,” Bahr stated, showcasing the infrastructure’s ability to accommodate high-capacity vessels like the LUDWIGSHAFEN EXPRESS, which measures 366 meters in length and has a draft of 15.50 meters.

The volume of general cargo movement reached an impressive 30,767 tons, including great quantities of vital goods such as 6,785 tons of urea, 3,400 tons of alpha-betger, 3,350 tons of clinker, and over 15,232 tons worth of various products. Furthermore, the total general cargo imported amounted to 45,562 tons, which included 7,500 tons of corn, 9,431 tons of beans, 9,000 tons of soybeans, 4,268 tons of flour, and 7,598 tons of fertilizer, among other goods. This snapshot of activity indicates a bustling trade environment within the port.

In addition to the bulk goods, a specific highlight was the shipment of 1,050 export containers, alongside 200 imported containers. The logistics effort also saw 3,688 containers tagged as in transit, reaffirming Damietta's strategic position in international shipping routes.

The port's deliveries are critical for regional agricultural and industrial activities, with substantial contributions from several batch runs. The current figures illustrate both the volume of goods being circulated and the importance of timely logistics management in ensuring quality supply chains. The grain storage facilities stood at 119,686 tons of wheat, while private sector areas recorded 68,064 tons. Additionally, a train carrying 1,304 tons of flour set off towards Shubra, showcasing intermodal strategies effectively employed by the port authorities.

The ship OLYMPOS SEAWAYS of the RORO shipping line played a pivotal role in recent operations, connecting Damietta to the Italian port of Trieste. It arrived carrying various goods, where it efficiently unloaded 16 containers, 46 empty and loaded trucks, and 10 full trucks reflecting a total of 1,189 tons of goods. With ongoing export activities, this vessel carried away 5 buses, 47 containers, and 30 trailers, totaling 1,659 tons destined for multiple European countries, including Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands, England, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.
