Daiyo Ikeda Suspends Activities After Graffiti Incident

Pro skateboarder faces scrutiny following arrest in Taiwan for property damage

In a surprising turn of events, pro skateboarder Daiyo Ikeda, 24, has announced a suspension of his activities following reports of his involvement in a graffiti incident in Taipei, Taiwan. The announcement was made by his agency, Murasaki Sports, on April 16, 2025, and has sparked significant concern among fans and stakeholders.

Ikeda, who had been in Taiwan since April 3, was reportedly arrested for allegedly trespassing and causing property damage. He is accused of illegally entering a building in Taipei and vandalizing it by writing graffiti on elevators and exterior walls. According to Taiwanese media, the incident occurred on April 6, when Ikeda and another athlete allegedly entered the building and used spray paint and felt pens to deface various surfaces, including air conditioner units.

In response to the incident, Murasaki Sports issued an apology, stating, "We deeply apologize for the concern and confusion caused to stakeholders and fans regarding our contracted pro skateboarder Daiyo Ikeda." The agency confirmed that they had verified the facts with Ikeda and received a report indicating that a settlement had already been reached with the building's owner, thus no criminal charges were filed against him.

Despite the settlement, Murasaki Sports emphasized that Ikeda's actions were contrary to social responsibility and moral standards. The agency stated, "It is a fact that there were actions that went against social responsibility and morality. After discussions with the individual, we have decided to suspend his activities as a Murasaki Sports athlete for the time being." This decision reflects the agency's commitment to guiding Ikeda and preventing similar incidents in the future.

Ikeda’s history adds another layer to this situation, as he was previously arrested in 2023 on suspicion of violating the Cannabis Control Law in Japan. At that time, he had issued a statement through his official website, apologizing to fans and stakeholders for causing concern. The skateboarder has had a promising career, having started skateboarding at the age of four and winning the Amateur Dengkiltonpa Amateur competition in 2018. He was also a designated athlete for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

As the news of Ikeda's suspension spreads, the skateboarding community is left to ponder the implications of his actions. The incident raises questions about the pressures athletes face and the responsibilities they hold as public figures. Murasaki Sports has committed to providing Ikeda with more thorough guidance to ensure that such incidents do not occur again.

In light of these developments, fans are eager to see how Ikeda will navigate this challenging period in his career. The skateboarder, known for his talent and competitive spirit, now faces a crucial moment of reflection and growth. Murasaki Sports has stated that they will work closely with Ikeda to support him in overcoming this setback.

As the situation continues to unfold, many are watching closely, hoping for a positive resolution that allows Ikeda to return to the sport he loves and to regain the trust of his fans. The skateboarder’s future remains uncertain, but with the right support and guidance, there is hope for a comeback.
