Daiwa House Industry Donates 100 Million Yen To Miki City Redevelopment

The corporate donation aims to rejuvenate aging communities and strengthen local engagements through urban revitalization projects.

Miki City has announced it received a substantial donation of 100 million yen from Daiwa House Industry through the corporate version of the ‘Furusato tax payment’ initiative. This commitment, unveiled on March 17, 2025, is geared toward supporting the city’s urban redevelopment efforts, particularly its land redevelopment project.

The donation took place officially on March 14, 2025, with Daiwa House Industry, guided by President Kyoichi Yoshii, stepping forward to aid Miki City’s initiative as part of the Local Creation Support Tax System. This unique corporate tax strategy promotes investment by businesses back toward community development, aiming to tackle challenges like aging populations and declining demographics.

Daiwa House Industry boasts over six decades of experience and has developed suburban residential complexes known as ‘Neo Polis’ across 61 locations nationwide since the 1960s. Despite their popularity during their inception, many of these communities now face significant challenges. Community aging, population decline, and diminishing neighborhood interactions are common issues, making this donation particularly timely.

To address these pressing challenges, Daiwa House initiated the ‘LivNest Town Project’ back in 2015. This program aims to rejuvenate communities, creating new attractions and enhancing resident lives through various developmental strategies. Currently, Daiwa House operates within eight ‘Neo Polis’ communities, including the one located at Miki City, emphasizing their commitment to local revitalization.

Notably, the ‘Midori ga Oka/Aoyama Neo Polis,’ which Daiwa House developed and established back in 1967, has seen considerable redevelopment efforts since 2015. The company has partnered with Miki City through various initiatives and collaborations, aiming to create sustainable living environments.

One significant outcome of their partnership was the collaboration agreement made between Miki City and Daiwa House in February 2020 to promote sustainable town development. This collaboration has led to innovative community initiatives such as the establishment of the community facility named ‘Takahashi-san Chi’ and the planning of the multi-generational exchange base, tentatively named the ‘Miki Regional Exchange Base.’ These undertakings highlight efforts to boost community interaction and improve localized service access.

Currently, the overall size of the ‘Midori ga Oka/Aoyama Neo Polis’ reaches approximately 3.04 million square meters, which is about 65 times the size of Tokyo Dome. The total number of plots within the community is about 6,000, housing around 14,300 residents. Alarmingly, the aging rate of this population is approximately 37.0% according to the latest data from the end of December 2024.

Reflecting on the impact of this donation, Kyoichi Yoshii, the President of Daiwa House, expressed, “The donation aligns with our LivNest Town Project’s goals of rejuvenation and sustainability.” This statement encapsulates both the commitment of Daiwa House to community upliftment and the alignment of their corporate strategies with local government objectives.

Looking forward, the cooperative efforts between Daiwa House and Miki City demonstrate the power of public-private partnerships. By actively engaging with local needs through support initiatives like the corporate version of the Furusato tax payment program, businesses can play pivotal roles in enabling sustainable community growth.

With such strategic investments, the future of Miki City appears promising, paving the way for revitalization and community engagement. The interplay between corporate support and municipal planning is likely to serve as a model for future developments across Japan, addressing urgent social issues through innovative solutions.
