Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan's twisted thriller Fresh is airing on UK television tonight. The 2022 film has been described as a "must-see" by Digital Spy, focusing on a woman who meets the supposedly perfect man on a dating app, only to discover he has some unusual appetites.
If you fancy catching it, Fresh will be airing on Channel 4 at 12.10 a.m. (technically tomorrow morning), and will be available to stream on Channel 4's streaming service for free after the broadcast. The film is also available on Disney+.
This engaging thriller comes from director Mimi Cave and writer Lauryn Kahn, featuring a talented cast that includes Jonica T. Gibbs, Charlotte Le Bon, Andrea Bang, and Dayo Okeniyi. Digital Spy gave the film a four-star review, stating, "Every now and then, a movie comes along that is a challenge to talk about because it deserves to have some mystery preserved about what it's really about. Fresh is just such a movie." The review further added, "With plenty of visual style and two superb lead performances, Fresh is a surprising and twisted treat of a thriller that you won't want to miss."
Edgar-Jones has had a busy year thus far. Known for her role in Normal People, she also starred in the movie Twisters and the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at London's Almeida Theatre. She is set to appear next in the film On Swift Horses alongside Jacob Elordi.
On the other hand, Stan starred in A Different Man and The Apprentice in 2024, the latter role earning him his first Oscar nomination. He is also expected to return to his Marvel roots in the upcoming movie Thunderbolts.
With an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Fresh has become a standout film in the horror-thriller genre, cleverly combining elements of horror with a dark satire of modern dating culture. It tells the story of Noa (played by Edgar-Jones), a young woman growing tired of dating. Her luck seems to change when she meets Steve (played by Stan), who appears perfect. After several enjoyable dates, Steve invites Noa for a weekend getaway alone with him. However, the getaway takes a disturbing turn when he reveals his bizarre appetites.
Many critics have praised Fresh for its stylish direction and compelling performances. The film’s tension escalates after about thirty minutes when the title finally appears on screen, transitioning the narrative from a rom-com to a much darker thriller.
For insatiable movie lovers looking for thrilling content, Fresh shines as an unsettling experience, provoking thought about modern relationships while delivering an intense narrative. With its unique premise, lead performances, and a fresh perspective on traditional dating tropes, this film might be just what audiences are seeking.
Don't miss out! Fresh will air on Channel 4 at 12.10 a.m. on March 22, 2025, and will also be streaming on Disney+ as well as Channel 4's streaming service after its initial broadcast. Catch it while you can!
