Daegu City celebrated the inauguration of the 'Public Complex Hall' on February 19, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the Seo-gu district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 100 guests, including Seo-gu Mayor Ryu Han-guk, local officials, and community leaders. The event kicked off with performances from local kindergartens and preschools, followed by reports on the progress of the facility, speeches, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The construction of the Public Complex Hall was initiated to address the large influx of residents due to housing redevelopment projects and the growing demand for childcare services. The facility is set to begin operations immediately, aiming to provide quality administrative services and recreational opportunities for residents.
With a total investment of approximately 8.7 billion KRW, the Public Complex Hall spans four floors and covers an area of 1,551 square meters. The first floor houses the Seo-gu Administrative Welfare Center, followed by conference rooms and the ‘아이봄’ children’s toy library on the second, and the '아이봄' kids café on the third.
Mayor Ryu emphasized the importance of providing high-quality administrative services and creating supportive environments for young families. "Through the establishment of the Public Complex Hall, I expect to provide high-quality administrative services and create a supportive environment for childcare, which will positively influence population inflow," he stated during the ceremony.
Just two days later, on February 21, Daegu City hosted the '48th Citizen's Day' event at the Daegu Opera House, where five exemplary citizens were honored with the prestigious Citizen's Award.
The process to select these awardees began on September 1, 2024, and continued until October 27. A selection committee evaluated the nominees’ contributions to community development, with the final honorees being celebrated for their remarkable dedication.
This year's awardees included Park Se-ho, President of the Daegu Dental Association, who received the top honor for his implementation of the 'Hope Bridge for Tooth Restoration' program, enhancing medical access for underserved populations.
Other awardees included Kim Won-bin, recognized for revitalizing local small businesses through community programs, Kim Jong-wan for his volunteerism since 2018 aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, and Jo Jung-tae for his longstanding commitment to providing warm meals to seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Park Se-ho expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, "I want to share this honor with the members of the Dental Association and the citizens of Daegu," highlighting his collaborative efforts to expand healthcare accessibility.
Mayor Hong Joon-pyo also praised the awarded citizens for their unwavering service. "I extend my congratulations to the award recipients for their dedicated volunteer efforts to make Daegu a great place to live," he stated, underscoring the city's mission to discover and recognize the invaluable contributions of its citizens.
The events not only celebrated individual achievements but also demonstrated the city’s commitment to fostering community spirit and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. By recognizing the efforts of its citizens and investing in infrastructure, Daegu aims to build a brighter future.
