The announcement came during a lively panel titled "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — Behind the Scenes With its Creators," held on July 4, featuring key figures such as story writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor, voice actors Emi Lo and Zach Aguilar, and director Hiroyuki Imaishi.
Despite the first season’s conclusive and intense ending, which left fans wondering if a sequel was even possible, the creators confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is now in production. However, as Sztybor humorously cautioned, “Don’t get too excited, David’s dead,” referring to the original protagonist David Martinez’s fate in season one. Instead, the new season promises a fresh narrative with a “younger, fresher” cast of characters, expanding the dark and gritty world of Night City.
Studio TRIGGER, renowned for its dynamic animation style, is returning to helm the project, with Kai Ikarashi stepping into the director’s role for the first time. Ikarashi, who previously directed episode six of the original series, shared a Director’s Voice video expressing his enthusiasm for the sequel and his vision for the new installment. The series will consist of 10 episodes and is described as a standalone story that will be “sadder,” “darker,” and more intense than its predecessor.
