According to Spong, the email warned him of impending consequences due to his legal assistance to the suspect, asserting, "I received an email threatening my representation would have consequences and a hacker group would be deployed." Shortly thereafter, his inbox was bombarded with over 10,000 emails, creating chaos and frustration.
Reflecting on the experience, Spong described it as "very unpleasant" and noted, "This is the first time my computer network has been targeted like this.” The barrage of messages proved too overwhelming for immediate review, particularly as the attack struck late at night. He remarked, "Of course, I have faced personal threats before, but this is another level," indicating the severity of this incident.
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) has confirmed receiving Spong’s formal complaint about the attack.
