CyberAgent Reports Strong Q1 2025 Financial Results

Revenue rises driven by Media & IP's success, with ABEMA turning profitable.

CyberAgent Inc., based in Tokyo, Japan, announced its significant financial results for the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year on January 29, 2025. The company reported impressive growth across various segments, marking strong recovery and strategic investments within its operations.

For the quarter ending December 2024, CyberAgent's consolidated revenue reached ¥203.842 billion, up 5.6% from the previous year. Operating profit soared to ¥8.301 billion, reflecting a 32.1% increase year-on-year, with ordinary profit reaching ¥8.806 billion—a remarkable 35.9% increase. Notably, there was also a solid recovery with net profit amounting to ¥5.071 billion compared to the loss of ¥472 million incurred during the same quarter last year.

President and CEO Shin Fujita highlighted the company's strategic focus on its Media & IP business, which has shown strong growth, especially through the profitability of its streaming service ABEMA. Fujita remarked, "Our Media & IP business is showing strong growth, particularly with ABEMA turning profitable this quarter." This success can be attributed to CyberAgent's continued investment and the growing user base for ABEMA, which is seen as pivotal for the company's future.

The Internet Advertising sector has also performed well, with revenues rising to ¥117.792 billion, representing an 11.8% increase year-on-year. Operating income within this segment was recorded at ¥6.012 billion, marking a 6.1% growth from the previous year. This growth showcases the effectiveness of CyberAgent's advertising strategies and its ability to adapt to changing market demands.

Despite the positive developments, CyberAgent's Gaming division faced challenges due to declining revenues from existing titles. The gaming segment recorded sales of ¥38.247 billion, down 15.1% year-on-year, with operating profit also decreasing by 4.1% to ¥3.352 billion. Nevertheless, Fujita noted, "Despite challenges with existing game titles, our new releases have positively impacted our business strategy," signifying hope for recovery within the gaming space through innovative releases.

Looking forward, CyberAgent has set ambitious projections for the full fiscal year. The expected revenue for the year is ¥820 billion, which would represent a 2.1% increase from the previous year. Operating profit is anticipated to be ¥42 billion (up 0.4%), with ordinary profit expected to reach ¥42 billion, marking a growth of 1.3%. The projected net profit stands at ¥21 billion, highlighting substantial growth of 29.3% year-on-year. This sets the stage for what is expected to be another strong year for CyberAgent.

The company's performance is reflective of its ability to leverage its diverse business portfolio, including significant strides made within its Media & IP and Internet Advertising segments. The achievements noted during this quarter solidify CyberAgent's position as a key player within the digital business sphere, particularly as it navigates the challenges faced within the gaming market.

Overall, the reported figures and forward-looking statements from CyberAgent present an encouraging outlook for shareholders and market analysts. The reinvestment of profits back within the company, along with innovative strategies being implemented across divisions, positions CyberAgent to capitalize on future growth opportunities.
