Curitiba Kicks Off 2025 IPTU Distribution And Payment

Payment slips have started arriving as residents prepare for tax obligations this March.

Curitiba's Imposto Predial e Territorial Urbano (IPTU) for 2025 has officially commenced its distribution, with the first payment slips being delivered by the postal service starting Monday, February 17. The city’s Office of Planning, Finance, and Budget is now providing various ways for taxpayers to access their payment guides. Residents can either receive their payment slip by mail or generate it online through the Curitiba App or the city’s official website.

The deadline for the payment of IPTU 2025 is set for March 20. Taxpayers opting to pay the total amount up front will benefit from a 10% discount. Alternatively, for those who choose to break it down, the IPTU can be paid in installments spread out over ten months without incurring any interest charges. Payments can be scheduled from March through December, with all payments due on the 20th of each month. Should the 20th fall on a weekend or holiday, payments can be made on the next business day.

According to city officials, the IPTU 2025 will be applied to approximately 980,071 taxable properties across Curitiba. The director of real estate revenue for the city, Sergio Luiz Primo, stated, "The letters start being delivered on the 17th with the expected conclusion of the work for the beginning of March. Therefore, the taxpayer will have enough time to execute, if they do not receive by mail, the issuance via the internet, on the city hall website or through the Curitiba App." This indicates efforts to provide ample time for taxpayers to manage their tax obligations effectively.

To access the payment guide, residents need to provide the property’s registration and fiscal identification number, as well as their CPF or CNPJ. This information can be inputted online, where they can generate the Documento de Arrecadação Municipal (DAM) necessary for payment. Payment for the IPTU can be made at various banks, including Caixa Econômica Federal, Bradesco, Banco do Brasil, Santander, Itaú/Unibanco, Sicredi, Sicoob, Mercantil, and Ailos. Residents also have the option to pay through electronic banking, PIX, credit or debit cards, or set up automatic deduction from their bank accounts.

For those not utilizing online services, options remain for face-to-face assistance, allowing individuals to generate their payment guides at local financial service centers within the city or at the main office of the municipality. If scheduled service is preferred, appointments can be made through the city's online scheduling portal.

It is noteworthy to mention the inflation correction applied to the IPTU, which for most properties will align with the accumulated inflation rate of 4.87%. Certain properties may face more substantial increases if they are valued below the most recent valuation standard; only around 7% of the addresses face this more arduous assessment. Generally, homeowners can anticipate moderate adjustments, making this new payment plan beneficial for many.

Not just homeowners, but residents also need to prepare for the Taxa de Coleta de Lixo (TCL) 2025, which will also see similar inflation-based adjustments. This tax varies according to property size and weekly collection frequency.

The local government has projected revenues from the IPTU this year to be around R$ 1.55 billion, emphasizing the importance of this tax as it constitutes the city’s second-largest source of revenue, following service taxes (ISS). Funds obtained through IPTU are reinvested back to the community to improve public services such as roads, education facilities, and healthcare systems.

Residents are encouraged to contact the municipality through various communication channels for assistance or any questions about their obligations. The city hall provides support through the Central 156 hotline, the Curitiba app, and their website. There’s also the option of contacting via WhatsApp at (41) 99876-2903 for quick inquiries.

Overall, the city of Curitiba is diligently facilitating tax payment and compliance for its residents, striving to maintain transparency and accessibility as it aims to reinforce the community services funded by the IPTU. Residents are urged to be proactive as the deadlines approach to avoid penalties or complications.
