Curitiba Celebrates 332 Years With Festivities And Fun

The city marks its anniversary with cultural events, food specials, and community activities throughout the day.

On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the city of Curitiba will celebrate its 332nd anniversary with a vibrant array of festivities designed to engage residents and visitors alike. The celebrations will encompass cultural, recreational, and culinary activities across various iconic locations, marking a significant milestone for the capital of Paraná.

One of the central highlights of the anniversary is the event titled 'Curitiba 332', organized by the Municipal Chamber in collaboration with the City of Curitiba. This free event is set to take place in the parking lot of the Curitiba City Council, situated between the historic Palácio Rio Branco and Praça Eufrásio Correia, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with entertainment including inflatable toys, gaming areas equipped with pinball machines and video games, and even Teqball tables, a sport blending elements of football and table tennis.

The festivities kick off at 10:00 AM with the Gran Circo Stopim, a nostalgic tribute to the many circuses that have graced Curitiba over the years, featuring acrobats, jugglers, and clowns like Sarrafo, Tinoca, and Wilson. At 11:00 AM, the renowned Coral Negro de Curitiba will perform the city’s anthem, followed by a diverse musical offering from Banda Lyra Curitibana, which has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years.

As the clock strikes noon, the stage will welcome traditional performances from cultural groups such as the Apresentações Ítalo Brasileiro Santa Felicidade and Centro Espanhol do Paraná. The Ladies Ensemble, Brazil's first professional female orchestra, will grace the stage at 1:00 PM, showcasing classical music. The festivities continue with a performance by Wakaba Taiko from the Nipo-Brasileira Cultural Association at 2:00 PM, followed by a children’s theater piece titled Tupi Pererê at 3:30 PM. The day will conclude with a performance by local musicians at 4:30 PM, celebrating the rich choro music tradition.

In addition to the main event, the city has arranged special activities in four parks: Barigui, Semeador, Rio Bonito, and Bacacheri. At Parque Barigui, families can enjoy a recreation area featuring inflatable toys, a trampoline, and giant games from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. This park will not host its usual Sunday activities, making this Saturday's offerings particularly special.

Moreover, Mayor Eduardo Pimentel will participate in an environmental initiative during the celebrations, planting native tree seedlings in Praça Eufrásio Correia and Avenida Visconde de Guarapuava, reinforcing the city’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

For those looking to indulge in the local culinary scene, several bars and eateries across Curitiba will offer special promotions in honor of the city's anniversary. At Bar do Alemão, patrons can win a unique festival mug by ordering a drink called 'Submarino'. Meanwhile, Boteco de Sampa will serve a special feijoada and offer a complimentary caipirinha to customers who reserve a table for two. Distrito 1340 will provide a complimentary draft beer from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, along with double skewers featuring a capybara-themed stick. Additionally, Quintal do Monge will run a special promotion from March 28 to 30, featuring a dish of Brazilian picanha, available exclusively for the occasion.

Shopping Estação, a key landmark in Curitiba, will also partake in the celebrations by distributing free coloring books featuring Capinista, the shopping center's capybara mascot, alongside illustrations of the city’s main tourist attractions. These books can be collected starting at 11:00 AM at the diaper changing area on the first floor, adjacent to the Railway Museum. This museum, which houses over 600 historical pieces, is the only one of its kind located within a shopping center in Brazil, preserving the rich history of Curitiba and its railway heritage.

As the city gears up for its anniversary, the blend of cultural events, community engagement, and culinary delights promises a memorable day for all attendees. With activities designed for every age group, from children to adults, the celebrations aim to foster a sense of unity and pride among curitibanos while showcasing the city’s vibrant culture and history.

Curitiba’s 332nd anniversary is not just a celebration of the past; it is also a look towards the future, as the city continues to grow and evolve while honoring its rich heritage. This year’s festivities invite everyone to come together and enjoy the spirit of Curitiba, making it a day to remember.
