Couple Relocates To Furano For A New Life Together

A heartfelt story of love, commitment, and DIY home renovation as a newlywed couple embraces life after marriage.

A couple’s move from the metropolitan hustle of Osaka and Kagoshima to the scenic, serene town of Furano, Hokkaido, has made waves not just due to the geographical change but for their dynamic and inspiring story.

On January 26, 2025, the couple appeared on ABC’s 'Shinkon-san Irasshai!' showcasing their unconventional yet heartfelt wedding and subsequent relocation life. They are trying to turn what was once an old, dilapidated inn—a property almost as old as their marriage—into their dream home through DIY renovations.

Their adventure started about ten years ago, with their fateful meeting at 'Nora Gama,' a cafe frequented by bikers. The husband was deeply passionate about motorcycles, and after moving to Furano four years ago, there was finally the chance for their relationship to flourish. Surprisingly, after dating for just three days, he proposed to her, marking the beginning of their new chapter together.

One of the highlights of their modern fairy tale is their ambitious project of renovating what was once an abandoned 68-year-old lodging facility. They bought the building at what can only be described as shockingly low prices, dedicatng their weekends and nights to breathe new life back to the structure. Even as busy working professionals, they joke about how only 30% of the renovations are completed, emphasizing both the challenge and joy of the undertaking.

During the renovation process, fascinating glimpses of their teamwork can be found. The husband often takes on heavy demolition, showcasing his skills with tools like hammers and saws, as he dismantles walls, often resulting in hilarious moments. Meanwhile, the wife elegantly handles the painting and interior setup, learning techniques through countless YouTube tutorials. Their story epitomizes the spirit of determination and collaboration between partners.

The couple’s wedding was equally special, marked by heartfelt moments shared with friends. They held their ceremony with around 20 close friends, including fellow bikers, showcasing the strength of community ties. The wedding was celebrated not just with traditional elements but uniquely incorporated their love for motorcycles, as the bride dressed elegantly and arrived on her bike, solidifying their quirks as individuals.

Much emotion filled the air during the ceremony, especially as the bride read out a touching letter from her mother who still resides far away in Kagoshima. "I didn't think I would welcome someone to such a remote place," recalled the 84-year-old husband who appeared alongside his wife on 'Potsun to Ikkenya' during their interview, sharing how their decades-long relationship started within the town he grew up. His love for the land runs deep, as he frequently reminisces about the struggles of his ancestors who cultivated the land.

Reflecting on his life, he expressed, “Hometown is just so wonderful; I feel compelled to protect our home and the fields our ancestors cultivated.” His deep-rooted feelings encapsulate both nostalgia and commitment toward preserving their legacy.

The studio audience, including co-hosting celebrities, were visibly moved by the couple’s love story and their undying affection for each other and their home. Such tales of modern love resonate deeply, reinforcing the importance of commitment, partnership, and shared challenges and dreams.

Through their efforts and determination, the couple stands as representatives of so many modern marriages, where values like hard work, persistence, and shared dreams unite couples beyond the traditional script. Their story is more than just about relocation, but about building a life crafted with love and mutual respect, setting the template for generations to come.
