The 2025 vehicle refrendo process has officially commenced across various states in Mexico, with significant details released about the costs and discount structures. The Secretaria de Finanzas y Administración del Estado de Durango has outlined the payment options available for vehicle owners, which vary depending on when the payment is made and the type of vehicle.
According to the latest information, vehicle owners making their payments during January are eligible for up to 20 percent off the regular refrendo costs. Specifically, the full amount due for passenger vehicles stands at $2,431.97 pesos, but January payments will only require $1,945.58 when factoring the discount. This applies similarly to other vehicle types, such as motorcycles, which incur costs of about $729.59 during the same month.
The Secretaria de Finanzas y Administración emphasizes the importance of making these payments as soon as possible, as those who delay may face increased fees. The discounts are structured to encourage early payment, which will decrease throughout the first quarter of the year—with February seeing 15 percent off, and March dropping to 10 percent.
"En enero el valor de la UMA es el mismo de 2024, es decir, 108.57 pesos, mientras que a partir del 1 de febrero entrará en vigor el incremento correspondiente," highlights the Secretary, stressing how the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA) remains static for January but will increase starting February 1st. This is significant for those unaware, as many fees—ranging from refrendo costs to fines—are linked to this measure of economic adjustment.
Payments can be processed conveniently through various methods. Vehicle owners have the option to visit any available Centro Multipago or recaudation modules found across Durango, or they can complete their transactions online through the official portal at www.pagos.durango.gob.mx. For online payments, individuals need their plate number and the last six digits of their vehicle's serial number. Also, it's strongly advised to keep proof of payment for future reference.
Meanwhile, for the state of Quintana Roo, the vehicle refrendo costs have seen increases compared to previous years. The Secretaria de Finanzas y Planeación del Estado reported fees at $728 pesos for cars and trucks, and $478 pesos for motorcycles. Interestingly, unlike Durango, there hasn't been any announcement concerning early payment discounts, which places pressure on residents to meet payment deadlines to avoid fines.
A standard list of required documents for fulfilling refrendo payments includes having valid identification (such as INE, passport, or professional ID), the most recent vehicle circulation card, and proof of payment related to vehicle ownership taxes.
Vehicle owners are reminded of the deadlines—payments are typically due between January and March, and failure to comply can lead to penalties. The clarity offered by officials on these costs and structures for the upcoming year aims to streamline the payment process and encourage follow-through among vehicle owners.
Overall, the 2025 vehicle refrendo requires vehicle owners to remain attentive not only to the deadlines and payment options but also to potential savings from early payment discounts. Being proactive could save money as they secure their vehicle's legal standing on the road for another year.
