Costco Extends Gas Station Hours To Delight Shoppers

The retailer aims to make fueling more convenient as new locations are on the horizon.

A savvy shopper’s destination for buying groceries in bulk, chic sheds, and your favorite home products, Costco has continuously delighted customers with its wide assortment of inventory and food court items. Well, devoted Costco members, you’re about to be thrilled with the retailer's latest update.

According to CBS, during a March 6 earnings call, Costco CEO Ron Vachris said that along with new locations coming soon, the company has "extended our gas station hours in North America during the quarter to make filling up at Costco more convenient for our members.” That’s right, your local Costco gas station, which is known for offering competitively low prices, is going to be open a bit longer.

“Generally, our stations are now staying open an hour later than they did previously, with some opening earlier as well," Vachris added. In a Facebook post, Costco listed its new hours as:

  • 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday

  • 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday

  • 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The post did note that the hour may vary for California and Hawaii, and that everyone should still check with their local Costco for hours.

The announcement was immediately met with praise from members. "This is awesome! Thanks, Costco!!!" one Facebook commenter wrote. "Super exciting," another added. "Loving the 6am pump access on weekends," someone else wrote.

But that’s not all Costco shoppers potentially have to look forward to, according to Vachris. It seems that extended store hours are on the CEO’s radar as well. “We did see some demand from the commuters, both at the early hours and the evening hours, so I think that that's going to be a real benefit to those folks as well,” Vachris said, noting that increased hours are “not off the table.” Though, he did also mention that there aren’t any official plans in the works at the moment.

Well, until then, we'll just keep our fingers crossed!
