Cortina Express Set For Holiday Release

The Christmas comedy features Christian De Sica and Lillo, bringing festive cheer to the big screen.

The festive film season is just around the corner, and this year, it brings forth the much-anticipated release of 'Cortina Express.' Directed by Eros Puglielli, this latest Christmas comedy features well-known stars Christian De Sica and Lillo (Pasquale Petrolo) and is set to delight audiences starting December 23, 2024.

'Cortina Express' finds its backdrop amid the picturesque ski resort of Cortina, already known as the go-to location for many holiday films. The storyline revolves around several characters intertwined by their various quests during this busy season. De Sica plays Lucio De Roberti, the charming viveur determined to steer his unsuspecting nephew away from his disastrous wedding plans. Meanwhile, Lillo portrays Dino Doni, a washed-up musical star seeking both redemption and the love of his estranged daughter. Isabella Ferrari joins the cast as the cunning music executive, patronizing her own daughter’s future to stave off financial ruin.

According to AskNews, Christian De Sica describes his return to the Christmas film genre as “the call of the wild,” emphasizing his eagerness to create another family-friendly movie. He elaborates, “This is my 22nd film for Christmas, and I wanted to produce something entertaining for families without resorting to excessive humor or crude jokes.” His excitement radiates as he mentions the comedic value he hopes to convey.

Lillo also pipes up, sharing his own experience on set, “I managed not to laugh,” admitting how challenging it is to maintain composure when working with De Sica, whom he feels is incredibly funny. With numerous comedic exchanges anticipated throughout the film, audiences can expect excellent chemistry between the two stars.

Adding to the lineup, Isabella Ferrari notes this is her first Christmas film alongside De Sica. Reflecting on past collaborations, she indicates the significance of finally sharing the screen with him, which only adds to the film’s nostalgia and festive charm.

Director Eros Puglielli mentions, “The characters are all poor trying to act rich,” shedding light on the contemporary themes explored within the film. Through humor and relatable situations, he hopes to prompt audiences to reflect on today’s definitions of wealth and success, especially considering Cortina's historical status as once the playground for the affluent.

Puglielli's script, co-written with Tommaso Renzoni, also offers clever references and familiar comedic scenarios reminiscent of classical Italian cinema. The plot maintains several engaging hijinks, weaving through misunderstandings and the quirkiness of its characters.

Francesco Bruni, who plays De Sica's naive nephew, approaches his role with humor and candidness, stating, “I’m not the comedian; that's for Lillo and De Sica, but I had to try!” His remarks capture the entertaining dynamics on set, which is expected to resonate well with viewers. He intends for his character’s evolution to highlight comedic struggles as he learns to navigate familial pressures.

Throughout the production, the ensemble cast confronts various hilarious situations, building rapport among themselves. “We battled against weather challenges,” Bruni reveals, hinting at the unpredictable moments on set which may just translate onto screen, contributing to the film's lively energy.

With the Christmas movie tradition long embedded within Italian cinema, 'Cortina Express' aspires to capture the joy and laughter associated with the holidays. Audiences are invited to partake in the festivities, expecting familiar faces and fond memories filled with warmth and laughter.

With sharp wit, relatable character arcs, and scenic Cortina setting the scene, this film positions itself as both entertainment and commentary on societal norms. Promising enjoyment for both families and individuals alike, 'Cortina Express' is expected to illuminate cinemas just as the holiday spirit takes hold.
