Corinthians Signs Left-Back Fabrizio Angileri For 2025 Season

The Argentine player joins from Getafe with ambitions to fill the team's left-back vacancy after recent struggles.

The Corinthians football club has officially announced the signing of left-back Fabrizio Angileri from Getafe, marking the first reinforcement for the Timo for the 2025 season. The Argentine player, aged 30, has signed a contract valid until December 31, 2025.

Fabrizio Angileri, who had previously been under contract with Getafe until June 2026, moved to Corinthians free of charge after negotiating his contract termination with the Spanish club. The agreement includes significant buyout clauses: R$ 300 million for domestic transfers and €100 million for international ones.

When asked about his decision to join Corinthians, Angileri expressed enthusiasm, stating, "When the opportunity with Corinthians arose, I didn’t think twice. Some other clubs approached me, but Corinthians is a giant club in South America. I’m really happy about this big step and now focused on our objectives,” during an interview on Corinthians TV.

The signing process saw twists and turns, as initially, the club pursued Angileri on terms involving a loan with the option to buy. The negotiations cooled when Getafe demanded financial compensation. Eventually, both parties agreed on Angileri’s contract termination, which benefitted Getafe as it relieved them of his wages.

Corinthians had been seeking reinforcement for the left-back position for some time, with failed bids for players such as Renan Lodi, Guilherme Arana, and Wendell. With Angileri's addition, the club has four players competing for the left-back spot, joining Matheus Bidu, Hugo Farias, and Diego Palacios. The hiring aligns with head coach Ramn Daz’s need for strengthening this area of the team, as he identified it as the most pressing concern.

Angileri’s career began at Godoy Cruz, where he played 109 matches and contributed significantly to the team's defensive and offensive plays. The left-back later joined River Plate, realizing his peak performance with 68 games played, four goals, and 13 assists, which helped the club secure multiple titles including the Argentinian Championship and the Copa Argentina.

After his success at River Plate, Angileri transferred to Getafe, where he struggled to find playing time, making only 27 appearances since joining the club. His last professional appearance was over nine months ago, which raises questions about his match fitness. Nevertheless, his technical skills and offensive capabilities could prove beneficial for Corinthians, as he is known for his sharp attacking play and decent crossing abilities.

The announcement arrived at the perfect moment, just before the deadline for registering new players for the knockout stage of the Campeonato Paulista, with Corinthians needing to finalize Angileri's registration by February 28. Fans are hopeful his arrival will catalyze the team’s performance as they look to compete at high levels both domestically and internationally.

Angileri becomes the ninth foreign player on the Corinthians roster, signaling the club's strategy to strengthen its squad with international talent. This signing symbolizes both the urgency and ambition of Corinthians as they look to build on their successes from recent seasons.
