Corinthians Dominates Vasco In Galvão Bueno's Amazon Debut

Technical issues disrupt Galvão Bueno's narration during thrilling 3-0 victory for Corinthians

In a highly anticipated clash in the Brazilian Championship, Galvão Bueno made his debut as a narrator for Amazon Prime Video on Saturday, April 5, 2025. However, the excitement was marred by technical difficulties that disrupted the broadcast during the initial moments of the match. The game featured a showdown between Corinthians and Vasco at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo, kicking off at 18h30 (Brasília time).

Galvão Bueno led the pre-game show for the match, which was part of the second round of the Brasileirão. Unfortunately, as the match began, his signal from the broadcast booth failed, and he was unable to provide commentary for the first 15 minutes of play. In his absence, fellow commentator Napoleão de Almeida took over, narrating the action as it unfolded.

The match saw its first goal scored by Corinthians’ Yuri Alberto, who found the back of the net around the 12-minute mark, thanks to an assist from Memphis Depay. The excitement continued as Memphis himself scored shortly after, doubling Corinthians’ lead before Galvão finally made his way back on air.

Before the match commenced, Galvão had expressed concerns regarding the audio quality to the production team, which may have contributed to the technical issues experienced during the broadcast. Alongside him in the booth were Mauro Naves and Vanderlei Luxemburgo, as well as reporters André Hernan and Fernanda Arantes, who contributed to the coverage once the broadcast returned to normal.

Despite the rocky start, the match itself was a dominant performance by Corinthians, who maintained their historical advantage over Vasco. This victory marked Corinthians' first win of the season after previously drawing against Bahia. For Vasco, this match represented a setback, as they were coming off a solid win against Santos in their season opener.

Corinthians' lineup featured Matheus Donelli, Matheuzinho, Félix Torres, André Ramalho, Matheus Bidu, Breno Bidon, Raniele, André Carrillo, Igor Coronado, Memphis Depay, and Yuri Alberto, all under the guidance of coach Ramón Díaz. On the other hand, Vasco, managed by Fábio Carille, fielded a largely reserve team due to the demanding schedule, with only a few regulars remaining in the lineup.

The scoring began with Yuri Alberto’s goal, which was met with jubilation from the home crowd. Memphis then showcased his skills, scoring the second goal after receiving a return pass from Alberto. However, the visitors raised complaints regarding the validity of the goal, citing a handball incident involving Corinthians' Raniele. After a VAR review, the goal was allowed to stand, much to the dismay of the Vasco players.

In the second half, Corinthians appeared to extend their lead further when Matheus Bidu found the net, but that goal was disallowed after VAR determined a foul had occurred in the buildup. Memphis also had a stunning goal ruled out for offside, leaving the score at 2-0 for the time being.

As the match neared its conclusion, an unfortunate mistake from Vasco’s goalkeeper Léo Jardim led to an own goal by João Victor, sealing the deal with a final score of 3-0 in favor of Corinthians. This result temporarily placed Corinthians at the top of the Brasileirão standings with 4 points, while Vasco found themselves in 7th place with 3 points.

As the teams look ahead, Corinthians will next face América de Cali in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana on April 8, followed by a clash against Palmeiras in the Brasileirão on April 12. Vasco, on the other hand, will play against Puerto Cabello in the Sudamericana on the same day as Corinthians’ next match and will look to bounce back against Sport in the league shortly after.

Overall, while Galvão Bueno’s debut was fraught with challenges, the match itself provided a thrilling display of Brazilian football, with Corinthians asserting their dominance over Vasco once again. The excitement of the Brasileirão continues to build as teams vie for supremacy in this prestigious tournament.
