Concordia Texas Baseball Triumphs Over Centenary College

Colby Christian and Bo Dinscore shine as Concordia secures 10-5 victory in conference opener.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team opened up the conference series against Centenary College with a 10-5 win. Zach Seigrist, Bo Dinscore, and Colby Christian all homered at Gardner-Boggs Field on Friday, March 21, 2025. Concordia's offense got started early in the first inning as Christian powered a two-RBI triple off the wall, bringing home Seigrist and Aaron Gomez. At the next at bat, Dinscore connected on a groundout that brought Christian in, putting CTX up 3-0.

In the second frame, Seigrist extended the lead to 4-0 with a solo shot to left field. The Gents managed to score two runs in the top of the third, but Concordia quickly bounced back when Dinscore hit a two-run home run, scoring Christian, leading to a 6-2 advantage heading into the fourth inning. The lead further stretched to 7-2 in the fifth when a stolen base by Landon Hyle resulted in a throwing error, allowing him to score. Carson Riley added to the tally with a successful RBI-bunt, driving Matthew Armes home and increasing the score to 8-2.

Centenary responded with an unearned run to make the score 8-3 in the sixth inning. However, the Tornados answered in kind with a two-run homer from Christian, who sent Kalen Clark home, giving Concordia a 10-3 lead heading into the seventh. The Gents managed two more runs for a final score of 10-5, but those would be their last of the game as Concordia secured the win.

The standout players for Concordia included Colby Christian, who went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored; Bo Dinscore, who notched 3 RBIs; and Zach Seigrist, who went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Otto Franz impressed on the mound, going 8.0 innings, throwing 114 pitches, striking out 5 batters, and allowing just 4 earned runs.

The Concordia Tornados, who are currently ranked 22nd nationally in the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Coaches Poll, will face Centenary again with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, March 22, 2025, commencing at noon. This match-up holds significance, as it’s the first time these two teams meet as conference opponents, adding another layer of excitement to the series.

In a previous meeting back in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, Concordia had defeated Centenary with a score of 13-4, ending the latter's season. The teams have a history, meeting twice prior, with Concordia leading 2-0 in the all-time series. As this current series unfolds, both teams are vying for crucial conference standings, with Concordia sitting in second place behind Trinity University.

Centenary has shown resilience this season as they seek to build on their recent performances; however, they have faced challenges on the road, standing at a mere 2-1 away this season. In contrast, Concordia boasts an impressive 8-2 home record, enhancing their confidence as they defended home turf.

As the teams prepare for the doubleheader on Saturday, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Centenary, having been picked to finish third in their league, is looking to improve their 5-7 standing in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Central to their strategy will be players like Noah Paulson, Alex Miller, and Brody Hebert, all of whom have had notable performances this season.

Paulson leads the team with a .359 batting average, while Miller and Hebert have been crucial in driving in runs, showcasing Centenary’s potential to make a statement in this series. On the mound, their pitching staff, with a 4.24 ERA, will need to step up against Concordia's offensive prowess, which has already amassed 24 home runs this season.

Centenary last faced an uphill battle against Concordia, and as they step onto the field for the doubleheader, all eyes will be on their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and mitigate defensive errors. The Tornados, led by head coach Clint Mokry in his third season, will aim to continue their stride for the championship as they compete in their inaugural season in the SCAC.

Fans and supporters can keep up with the action through live stats and video available for all three games. Admission to all Centenary baseball home games is free, inviting community support as these local teams showcase their talent on the field.

As the series progresses, the questions loom: Which team will claim victory? Can Centenary rise to the challenge and reverse their fortunes on the road against a strong Concordia opposing force? The excitement surrounding this matchup highlights the competitive spirit and future potential of both teams in this critical juncture of the season.

Stay tuned for more updates as the teams gear up for another thrilling day of baseball.
