Community Remembers Frank And William Grimes

Family and friends gather to honor the lives and legacies of two beloved individuals named Grimes.

The community mourns the loss of two cherished individuals named Grimes, following the recent deaths of Frank Grimes and William "Rainey" Grimes.

Frank Grimes sadly passed away after a brief illness on January 4, 2025, at the age of 72. His family, including his spouse of over 40 years, Dale Elaine Zimon, and his sons Bob Grimes and Jordan Zimon, are left to grieve his loss. Frank was also deeply cherished by his beloved granddaughter Aliya Grimes. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Grimes (Connelly), and siblings Rick Grimes (Carolyn) and Jim Grimes. Special friends Lennie and Howie will also miss him dearly. Frank was predeceased by his father, Robert Melvin Grimes.

A Celebration of Frank’s Life is scheduled for January 26, 2025. It will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #275, located at 500 Blair Street, Fergus, Ontario. The event will run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Following the celebration, there will be a private family interment. The family requests any memorial donations be directed to the Aboyne Rural Hospice.

Meanwhile, William "Rainey" Grimes, 57, of Weirton, passed away on January 3, 2025. Born on July 3, 1967, he was the son of the late James and Bonnie (Backus) Grimes. Rainey was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jeff” Grimes. A proud graduate of Weir High, Rainey also served as a veteran of the Army and had retired from Advance Auto. He was actively involved with the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and Weirton Company #1 Volunteer Fire Department.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Donna (Weekly) Grimes, at home, along with his daughter, Taylor Grimes (Cameron Lancaster) of Weirton, and step-daughter Beth (Kevin) Weaver. Rainey was also survived by four grandchildren—Alex, Ronan, and Laney Rogers, and Kennedy Weaver—who will carry on his legacy. His brother, Timothy (Renee) Grimes of Pennsylvania, as well as other relatives, including sister-in-law Carol Lada and brother-in-law, Rick (Helen) Weekly, are also grieving his loss. His beloved pets, feline companion “Leo” and canine “Sidney,” will similarly feel his absence.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on January 6, 2025, at the Nixon Funeral Home of Newell, where they can gather from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6 p.m.

Both Frank and William Grimes contributed significantly to their families and communities, and their lives will be celebrated by those who loved them. The shared memories and legacies of these two remarkable men will continue to resonate within their families and beyond.
