On March 20, 2025, the community in Plainfield, Indiana, mourns the passing of Marjorie Viola O'Dell, a spirited 72-year-old who was not only a dedicated mother and grandmother but also a seasoned truck driver. Born on August 5, 1952, to Elmer Cole and Mable (Lakin) Dillon, O'Dell's life was marked by a strong work ethic and deep familial love.
O'Dell's legacy lives on through her two sons, Micah J. Swafford and Timothy L. Swafford, as well as her daughter-in-law Danielle. She also leaves behind two sisters, Becky J. Arthur and Carolyn Habig, a brother, Sam Dillon, and a close friend and sister-in-law Joyce Cole. Her family expands to ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored.
Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband Brian O'Dell, her son Stephen D. Swafford, and her brother Larry Cole. The family has opted for no public services, following Marjorie's wishes, leaving her immediate family to cherish their memories privately. Arrangements have been handled by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
In another heartfelt farewell on the same day, John Ashley Langdon, a beloved 70-year-old resident of McGee Road in Benson, North Carolina, passed away surrounded by family. His funeral services are set for March 24, 2025, at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Benson at 11:00 AM. Family and friends will gather to say their goodbyes at Rose & Graham Funeral Home on March 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Langdon, born on August 15, 1954, in Johnston County, was a lifelong member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and enjoyed over 30 years of commitment to his faith. He was an avid farmer, often spending his days riding his John Deere tractors and tending to his crops. His passions included outdoor activities, such as fishing, hunting, and motorcycling. His wife, Danielle Wood Langdon, along with his children Jessica Narron, Heather Stafford, and step-daughters Joelle Whittemore and Liberty Norris, survive him. He was a cherished grandfather to two granddaughters, Decklyn Narron and Anna Grace Stafford.
Langdon's legacy as a family man extends beyond blood relations, ingraining himself in the community through friendships and involvement in the Children's Ministry at Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Meanwhile, the grieving family of Zachary Taylor Maxwell, a fifteen-year-old resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, also deals with their loss as he passed away peacefully at home the same day. Zachary, who was born on May 4, 2009, exhibited great courage during a battle with cancer that defined much of his young life. Family and friends will celebrate his life at Coram Deo Bible Church at a later date.
As a student at Pleasant Valley High School, Zachary was known for his unwavering faith and positive attitude, spending quality time playing video games, fishing, and hunting, and enjoying the great outdoors with his friends and family. He was devoted to his family, which included his parents Jodi and Daniel Maxwell, as well as his siblings Carson, Ethan, and Madison.
Zachary was actively involved in his church, and his faith served as a guiding light throughout his struggles. Known for his determination, he managed to continue pursuing his hobbies, including playing trumpet and hunting, even while facing the adversity of using only one arm.
Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the Hudson Strong Foundation, which provides resources to families affected by childhood cancer. Despite the brevity of his life, Zachary Maxwell's spirit will resonate through the wonderful memories he created with those who loved him.
These three individuals—Marjorie O'Dell, John Langdon, and Zachary Maxwell—represent the profound impact that a life can have on family and community. Each shared their unique stories, poured love into their families, and created lasting impressions that will be felt for generations to come. Let their memories be a blessing as they journey into eternal peace.
