Community Mourns Loss Of Beloved Individuals Deborah Baxter And Jack Murray

Families reflect on legacies of love and creativity following their untimely passings.

The recent passings of two beloved individuals, Deborah "Debbie" Mantooth Baxter, age 68, and Jack A. Murray, age 12, have left deep voids within their respective communities, highlighting both their vibrant lives and the cherished memories shared with family and friends.

Deborah Baxter, who passed away on January 4, 2025, was known as a devoted Christian and loving matriarch who touched many lives throughout her time. A graduate of Maury High School from the Class of 1974, she enjoyed a diverse career working for various companies, including Epco and Le Sportsac, eventually retiring from Overman Industry. Her contributions to her family and community were significant.

Deborah is survived by her devoted husband, Bart Baxter, and their son, Marcus. She also leaves behind her siblings, including brother Charles Mantooth, sisters Jeanie Shemwell and Shiela Dennis, and numerous nephews and nieces. Grandson Darien Wampler will also hold her memory closely as they gather to celebrate her life.

A graveside memorial service for Deborah will be held on January 10, 2025, at Hills Union Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Chambers officiated the service. The warmth of her friendships and family relationships is expected to be felt as everyone joins together to honor her memory.

On the other end of the spectrum of loss, the community remembers Jack A. Murray, who passed away unexpectedly at the tender age of 12. Born on May 23, 2012, he was not just a beloved son to parents Paul and Crystal but also the best "big bro bro" to his younger sibling, Finley. Jack’s radiant positivity, infectious laughter, and boundless creativity made him a shining light for many.

Despite his short life, Jack achieved what many may only dream of. He showcased his artistic talents through drawing and painting, played the trombone and drums with the Chapman Middle School Band, and even ventured as far as starting his own eBay store. His entrepreneurial spirit was seen through his various projects, including selling cookies to local restaurants and designing clothing for his online shop.

Jack was dearly cherished by his grandparents and numerous uncles, aunties, and cousins, who all recognized his immense potential. His family poignantly remarked, "The brightest shining lights in life never shine long enough and Jack was the bright light for so many." Jack's absence may leave lasting sadness, but there's confidence his spirit will inspire others to embrace life fully.

To commemorate Jack’s legacy, his family invites relatives and friends to visit on January 5, 2025, during the visiting hours from 11 AM to 3 PM at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home. They request donations to the Maria Chapman Middle School Band instead of flowers, honoring Jack’s love for music and community involvement.

Both Deborah and Jack leave behind invaluable lessons of love, creativity, and the importance of cherishing one another. The legacies of these two remarkable lives will continue to echo through the hearts of those they touched, reminding us all to live fully and spread kindness, just as they did.
