Kansas City is revving up for the highly anticipated second annual Westport Wheels Car Show, happening on August 24 from 11 AM to 3 PM. This free event invites classic car enthusiasts and curious attendees alike to explore rows of vintage vehicles against the backdrop of Westport's historic charm.
Located south of Westport Road, classic cars will gleam under the sunlight, reflecting the area's rich history established back in 1833. Lexie Boyd, the Westport Events Manager, emphasizes the event's purpose: "Westport Wheels is an opportunity to unite people around the interest of vintage cars," indicating the strong sense of community it fosters.
Car owners are encouraged to pre-register their classic rides online, ensuring their spot among the anticipated fleet of vintage gems. Award trophies will be handed out by judges who appreciate the artistry and history behind each vehicle displayed at the event.
But the Westport Wheels Car Show isn’t the only attraction this weekend. Just the night before, on August 23, Westport will hold its Teacher's Happy Hour, bringing educators together for some much-deserved relaxation and camaraderie.
The happy hour will feature participation from eight local establishments, making it easy for teachers to unwind over drinks and appetizers. Plus, attendees have the chance to win exciting prizes, including school supplies and Westport gift cards.
Over in Grantham, the Bear and Bee Garage has organized its inaugural Classic Car Show on August 25 from 10 AM to 2 PM. This heartfelt event will not only showcase classic cars but also raise funds for Cancer Research UK, honoring the legacy of local car enthusiast Ian Houlden.
Ian, affectionately known as "Teddy Bear," passed away from cancer four years ago. His daughter Robyn and her brother Russ have taken the initiative to host this event at the garage, which opened just last November to keep their father's love for classic cars alive.
The lineup for the show includes around 20 classic cars, and attendees are encouraged to enjoy food and drink stalls alongside the vehicle displays. "We’ll be bringing along three of his own cars, and we're doing this to honor him," Robyn shared, showcasing the pride she has for her father’s legacy.
The show stands out not only for the impressive cars but also for the community spirit it fosters. Stalls will feature activities like defibrillator training by the LIVES charity, combining fun with valuable learning experiences.
Entry to this heartfelt tribute is free, but attendees should reserve their spots beforehand through online registration. To keep the event vibrant, the family also has plans for another American Car Show at their Billingborough business the weekend prior, also raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
