Communities Mourn Loss Of Two Beloved Matriarchs

Margaret Ann Bailey and Thelma Kay Chapman are remembered for their love and kindness.

In a heartfelt tribute, family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Margaret Ann Bailey, who passed away at the age of 85. The service is set to take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 12:00 noon at St. James Anglican Church located on Main Road in Sandys. Known for her warm spirit and loving nature, Margaret's legacy will be honored by those she cherished the most.

Margaret Ann Bailey, beloved wife of Joseph ‘Joe’ Bailey and loving mother to Jamal Eugene Bailey, leaves behind a legacy that resonates with love and compassion. She was the daughter of the late Dagmar and Leslie Roberts. The family will host a celebration of life service that promises to be an emotional farewell, marking the conclusion of Margaret’s rich and meaningful journey.

The interment will follow the service at St. James Cemetery, as Margaret rests in peace among familiar grounds. She cherished her family deeply, and they include her husband Joseph, her son Jamel, stepdaughter Jo-Ann Scott, and her four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Margaret’s family circle also widens with her sisters: Marion Doers, Sheila Moore, Marlene Davis, Jacqueline Hunt, and her brother Noel Burgess. Also part of this loving family are several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and godchildren, reflecting how she impacted many lives.

Meanwhile, another community in mourning is Glasgow, Kentucky, where Thelma Kay “Aunt Kay” Chapman passed away on March 19, 2025, at Signature Health Care. She was 69 years old and known for her caring heart, which was evident in the way she dedicated her life to helping family, especially her numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Aunt Kay was the daughter of the late James Edward and Lelia Mae Binkley Chapman. She had an endearing personality and was known for her humor and kindness, attributes that gained her many admirers, especially among the younger family members. She was a proud member of Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where her presence warmed the hearts of many.

In her passing, she leaves behind caregivers Leonard and Brandy Ballard, along with her nieces and nephews: Ashley Bowles, Amber Chapman, Megan Chapman, Jennie Smith, Tracy Smith, Brandi Manning, Bubba Ballard, Lacie Spillman, and many great-nieces and nephews. Her passing has been mourned by lifelong friend Bobby Close and her family, which sadly includes the memory of two brothers, Leon and Thomas Chapman, a sister Shirley Wilburn, a sister-in-law Genene Chapman, and a niece Pam Smith, all of whom predeceased her.

The funeral for Aunt Kay will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home at 2:00 pm, with burial taking place in the Tracy Church Cemetery. Visitors can pay their respects starting at 10:00 am that day, allowing family and friends to share words of comfort and love before the service.
