Colwick and Crosby parkruns welcome hundreds as locals kick off resolutions together this New Year.

New Year celebrations across the UK showcased vibrant community spirit and fitness enthusiasm as towns like Colwick and Crosby hosted engaging parkrun events to usher in 2025.

At the Colwick parkrun, the atmosphere was bursting with excitement as the community gathered to kick off the New Year, following interruptions from weather on January 1st. A remarkable 466 runners came together, marking the event with joy and camaraderie. This event wasn’t just about running; it reflected unity, with many individuals embarking on their first parkrun experience. Among them were participants such as Annabella, Arron, and Vicky, who kicked off their resolution to stay active.

Event organizers reported, "Happy New Year Colwick parkrun!" signifying the sense of joy the event instilled within the community. Several runners not only celebrated the New Year but also joined the parkrun community for the first time, adding their names to the list of regulars and newcomers alike.

A special shoutout went to the volunteers who made it all happen, ensuring the runs went smoothly amid brisk temperatures. With many individuals coming from distant places like Coventry, Cardiff, and Derbyshire, the collective spirit marked the celebration as not just local, but part of something larger. Notably, 35 participants traveled from afar to join their friends and family, demonstrating the event's far-reaching appeal.

Similarly, back at Crosby, participants ventured out to enjoy the first parkrun of the year, braving chilly conditions of just 4°C. The 399th event on January 4, 2025, saw 273 participants, including visitors from all over, including as far as Ohio. Just like Colwick, Crosby’s parkrun displayed remarkable community engagement, with 47 first-timers joining the course.

Christine Ho, one of the event directors at Crosby parkrun, shared her thoughts candidly, saying, "Time to work off those mince pies, start those new year resolutions, and... enjoy the beautiful scenery of Crosby with friends.” This sentiment echoed the hopes of many participants who joined to jumpstart their fitness journeys.

Performance highlights at the Crosby parkrun included 24 personal bests achieved, showcasing dedication and commitment among participants. Milestones were reached by individuals such as Michael Cunningham, who celebrated his 50th parkrun, and Margaret Cooke, who marked her 25th. This achievement not only recognized personal effort but also highlighted the supportive nature of the parkrun community.

With participants pacing at various intervals, the event showcased diversity among runners, editing the picture of what New Year celebrations look like. The community of Crosby rallied around these events, illustrating the importance of local gatherings and healthy living.

From the finisher's area at Crosby, excitement lingered as people mingled, shared stories of their runs, and made new friends over light refreshments. Volunteers continued chatting, and some even planned for future runs as they returned tokens from the event, ensuring smooth operations for the upcoming weeks.
