PEORIA, Ariz. – The 2025 Westbrook Invitational Women's Golf Tournament is set to be the highlight of the collegiate spring golf schedule, drawing top talent from across the country to compete on the picturesque courses of Arizona. The tournament, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, will take place at the renowned Westbrook Village Golf Course on February 23-24, marking its return with 14 collegiate teams vying for the title.
This year’s competition will see familiar faces, including the defending champions, the Kansas Jayhawks, who claimed the title last year with an impressive score of -43. "We are very excited to get to warm weather this week at Westbrook and defend our title from last year," stated Kansas head coach Lindsay Kuhle, reflecting the team’s confidence as they prepared to face off against formidable challengers.
The event will feature 54 holes of golf, with the first two rounds played on Sunday and the final round on Monday, all beginning with shotgun starts at 8:30 AM local time. The classic par-72, 6,248-yard course is well-celebrated for offering varied challenges, including desert transition areas, water hazards, and risk-reward opportunities with driveable par-4s. "The classic par-72, 6,248-yard course has everything you could want in a golf course," reported the Penn State athletics department, highlighting the venue’s status as one of Arizona’s top-rated courses.
Alongside Kansas, the tournament field includes strong rivals like the Penn State Nittany Lions, who finished 10th last year but are determined to improve their performance. The Nittany Lions are led by senior Drew Nienhaus, who boasts remarkable averages this season and is eager to showcase her skills after finishing strongly in the fall seasons.
"We’ve made improvements since last year and look forward to performing well at this competitive event," Nienhaus noted.
Also hoping to make waves is the Sam Houston Bearkats, who tied for 10th place last year with their total score of 16 under par. Grace Lin and her teammates are gearing up to capitalize on their past experiences and manage their performance against tough competition. "The upcoming tournament is a pivotal opportunity for Sam Houston's women's golf team to assert their position," the athletics team remarked, underscoring the importance of this tournament for the Bearkats.
The struggling Mocs from Chattanooga are making their first-ever appearance at the Westbrook Invitational. They will face stiff competition as they join nine teams currently ranked among the top 100 nationally, including Kansas, and teams from Colorado State, Minnesota, and UNLV, all eager to stake their claim for the title.
Fans can expect thrilling action coupled with the chance to track progress through live scoring available via Scoreboard by Clippd, allowing real-time updates throughout the weekend. With the stakes running high, this tournament will serve as not just about claiming the title but also about testing the teams' abilities early on this spring season.
