Coin Band Disbands Amid Allegations Against Members

Lead singer Chase Lawrence announces split after recent revelations about bandmates

The Nashville pop-rock band Coin has officially disbanded, with lead singer Chase Lawrence announcing the heartbreaking news on Instagram on January 28, 2025. This decision follows unsettling revelations concerning the band’s members, which Lawrence addressed head-on.

Lawrence posted to Coin's official Instagram account, stating, "I have recently become aware of revelations around my bandmates and want to share some thoughts directly with all of you. I believe in accountability and doing what's right." His message conveyed disappointment and resolve, confirming the disbandment based on behaviors he described as conflicting with his values.

Three months prior, Lawrence had taken the step to move forward without the band’s drummer, Ryan Winnen, who had left to focus on personal matters. The latest announcement revealed the departure of guitarist Joe Memmel, amplifying the challenges faced by the remaining member of the trio. "Their behaviors directly conflict with my values, and I am devastated for anyone who has been affected by these actions," he continued.

The disbandment marks the end of Coin's run, which began back in 2012 when Lawrence and his bandmates—Winnen, Memmel, and initially, bassist Zachary Dyke—formed the group during their time at Belmont University. They gradually garnered attention, eventually achieving accolades for their vibrant synth-pop sound and energetic live performances.

Popular for tracks like "Talk Too Much" and "Malibu 1992," Coin captured the essence of contemporary pop-rock and cultivated a loyal fanbase, performing notable shows including their largest to date at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. Their last album, released just months ago, continued their legacy, but the recent developments have largely overshadowed their musical accomplishments.

Fans expressed their sorrow over the band's disbandment, with many taking to social media to voice their support for Lawrence's decision. One fan wrote, "Really sad I never got to see Coin in person. But Chase, your music has meant a ton to me over the years. I will absolutely be paying attention to whatever is next, wishing you the best." Another user commented, "While this is sad and shocking, it’s deeply reassuring to see your morals outweigh your need to maintain something that's become deeply tainted. Coin has provided me much joy and comfort over the years, and I'm so glad to know the voice behind the music stands for what's right when it matters most."

Despite the dissolution of the band, Lawrence remains hopeful about his musical future. He reassured fans, stating, "I know I'm not done making music yet," indicating his intention to pursue solo endeavors. To minimize the impact on fans affected by the abrupt cancellation, refunds for their upcoming tour, set to begin on February 8, will be processed at the point of purchase.

Coin’s history is rich with creativity and collaboration, and their impact on the pop-rock scene over the past decade cannot be understated. Their discography includes hits from several albums, marked by consistent themes of joy and introspection, but the recent controversies complicate their legacy.

The series of unfortunate events and the accompanying emotional turbulence has left the music community reeling. Fans hope for transparency about the revelations and behaviors leading to Lawrence’s difficult choice, with many ready to support the artist's next chapter.

Going forward, Lawrence’s mission to create music rooted in integrity and love stands as his guiding principle, making this chapter’s closure all the more poignant. The disbandment of Coin is both the end of one era and the potential start of another for Lawrence, as he navigates the future of his artistry away from the shadows of the past.
