Claude Kiambe To Represent Netherlands At Eurovision 2025

Rising star Claude set to bring Dutch music to Europe at Eurovision next year

The Netherlands has officially announced Claude Kiambe, popularly known as Claude, as their representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to be held in Basel, Switzerland. The 21-year-old singer-songwriter has become a notable force in the Dutch music scene, thanks to his hit songs like 'Ladada (Mon Dernier Mot)' and 'Layla'. This selection marks a significant moment for both Claude and the country's Eurovision aspirations.

Claude was chosen through a rigorous selection process conducted by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS. Out of 331 submissions, he emerged as the outstanding candidate, with the selection committee praising his entry as “a meaningful, connecting, and hit-sensitive song with international appeal.” The selection committee comprised notable figures, including Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas and singer Jaap Reesema.

"I feel incredibly honored to be representing the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest next year and I still can’t believe it. I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to let Europe hear the song," Claude expressed with enthusiasm during the announcement.

This exciting news arrives as fans eagerly await the reveal of Claude’s Eurovision song, scheduled for mid-January 2025. For many, his music career began to take off when his 2022 single 'Ladada' gained immense popularity, garnering over 57 million streams and making him one of the most streamed Dutch artists. His ascent continued with nominations for various awards, solidifying his status as the ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 3FM Awards and being named Qmusic's Artist of the Year.

Claude's entry to Eurovision not only highlights his musical capabilities but also his personal narrative. Originally born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Claude moved to the Netherlands at the age of nine, where he experienced both cultural challenges and triumphs. He recalls the sense of community he felt watching Eurovision with his family, particularly remembering the victory of Conchita Wurst for Austria, which instilled within him the desire to engage with the contest.

Further deepening his connection to music and performance, Claude’s debut album, Parler Français, was released last year and included songs co-written by him. He has successfully also toured across the Netherlands and Belgium, showcasing his growing appeal outside his home country. Apart from Eurovision, Claude is set to perform at the prestigious Pinkpop Festival in 2025, adding to his list of achievements.

His song 'Ladada', which aired successfully across multiple countries, has showcased his bilingual talent and ability to resonate with diverse audiences. The entry to Eurovision 2025 is expected to build on this momentum, potentially featuring lyrics in multiple languages, though the specific languages have yet to be disclosed.

The Dutch delegation has faced challenges recently, including the disqualification of Joost Klein from the previous Eurovision contest due to misconduct allegations. His situation cast shadows over the nation's Eurovision participation. AVROTROS was cautious about confirming their participation for 2025 but finally assured their commitment following changes from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to improve the safety and well-being of artists.

Throughout its Eurovision history, the Netherlands has experienced highs and lows. They have participated 64 times since their first entry back in 1956 and have claimed five victories—1957, 1959, 1969, 1975, and most recently 2019 with Duncan Laurence and his hit song 'Arcade'. Despite the challenges, including five last-place finishes, the country has proven to remain dedicated to the contest.

The Grand Final for Eurovision 2025 is set for May 17, and will be broadcast live from Basel, preceded by the semi-finals on May 13 and 15. With his energetic performances and meaningful songs, Claude hopes to raise the Netherlands' profile once again on the international stage.

AVROTROS has expressed optimism about its participation under new safety guidelines and structural changes put forth by the EBU, aiming to create healthier environments for all contestants involved. It will be intriguing to see how Claude embraces this platform as he prepares to showcase his talents to millions across Europe.
