Claro Customers Report Major Internet Outages Across Brazil

Users across Brazil face service disruptions as Claro investigates the widespread connectivity issues.

On Monday morning, March 24, 2025, customers of Claro, one of Brazil's major telecommunications providers, reported significant instability in their internet services. Users across various regions experienced a lack of signal, with many taking to social media to voice their frustration. The online service monitoring site Downdetector logged around 1,739 complaints regarding the issue within a span of a few hours, peaking at 8:17 AM.

As the morning progressed, numerous users noted that while some areas had services restored by approximately 9:30 AM, many continued to experience connectivity problems. Downdetector later updated this information to show 1,019 ongoing complaints by 9:41 AM, indicating a decline but still a considerable number of users without service.

Users from major cities such as Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Curitiba, and Campinas reported the largest concentrations of complaints. The range of problems reported included service disruptions that affected not just internet access but also the functioning of vital applications like Spotify, Instagram, and WhatsApp, particularly among those trying to connect to the 5G network.

Downdetector's data revealed that starting at 5 AM, the volume of reports began to increase significantly, reaching a high point just over three hours later. At around 9:20 AM, the monitoring platform tracked 1,447 complaints, underscoring the breadth of the problem impacting users in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul.

The complaints primarily focused on mobile internet issues, which accounted for about 84% of the reports. Other categories included problems with telephony and general service failures, which contributed 9% and 7% to the complaints, respectively.

Customers took to social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction. In a humorous yet frustrated tweet, one user lamented, “Internet móvel da Claro caiu no Brasil todo. Que várzea!” (Claro’s mobile internet is down across all of Brazil. What a mess!). Another chimed in, “Hoje minha internet da Claro decidiu pegar só pros apps que ela quer” (Today my Claro internet decided to work only for the apps it likes).

Beyond the annoyance of not being able to browse social media or stream music, users also faced practical challenges. Several reported difficulties accessing ride-sharing services, further complicating their Monday morning routines as drivers struggled to connect.

Certain users expressed their frustration with the company. “A Claro achou de bom tom me deixar sem internet mesmo com a fatura paga e mais de 90% do pacote disponível ainda,” one note stated, translating to, “Claro found it appropriate to leave me without internet even though my bill is paid and I still have over 90% of my plan available.” Such sentiments were echoed by many who felt inconvenienced by the outage.

The company has acknowledged the situation but has not yet provided specific details on the technical issues causing the disruption. A representative confirmed that Claro is investigating the matter with their technical team. As customers continue to wait for answers, the impact of this service interruption remains evident across various sectors reliant on consistent internet connectivity.
