Claes Malmberg, the 63-year-old Swedish comedian and actor, has announced the recurrence of his prostate cancer, which has now spread to his lungs. This alarming news has come after four years since he was first diagnosed, and it has significantly impacted his life, both personally and professionally as he prepares for several upcoming theatrical roles.
Following his initial prostate cancer diagnosis, Malmberg underwent surgery and had been under regular medical supervision to monitor his health. Just recently, he shared on the podcast "Nemo Möter En Vän" about how doctors found changes during examinations, leading to the unsettling news of cancer's return.
"I will have to live with this for the rest of my life since it cannot be radiated away," Malmberg stated candidly to Aftonbladet. He expressed how the cancer has spread and recounted his medical checks, saying, "It all started when my PSA levels increased, which should ideally be zero. I went through several scans last summer, and that's when they discovered changes in my lung." He is currently dealing with the distribution of the illness but maintains hope due to the healthcare advancements he has experienced.
Reflecting on his experiences, Malmberg emphasized gratitude for being part of the healthcare system, attributing his early diagnosis to regular checks after his prostate surgery. "I’m deeply thankful for being monitored, as it could have been serious otherwise. Had I not been involved with healthcare, I might not have caught it on time," he mentioned. His past struggle with impotency was also candidly discussed, as he noted, "I can’t see any shame in it; it’s merely the cause and effect of treatment."
Despite the difficult circumstances, Malmberg remains optimistic, stating, "I’m not feeling anything physically; I’m actually feeling healthier than ever." He confirmed he is taking anti-cancer medication to manage the condition, noting, “It’s only about keeping it stable and taking it day by day.” He jokingly remarked about being perhaps the most radioactively examined man, detailing his frequent visits to medical scanners and his readiness to face what lies ahead.
To his fans, he continues to engage actively, confirming his appearances on shows like "Bingolottos" and indicating he has major roles set for theatrical performances scheduled for 2025. His spirits remain high, reinforcing his commitment to both his career and his health. "There’s no need for people to worry about cancelling any tickets; I’m still here!" he declared enthusiastically.
Malmberg also took the opportunity to remind men of the importance of health checks, assertively saying, "I would recommend both older and younger men to get checked. This is not just an elderly man’s disease; it can affect younger men as well, and I cannot stress this enough. If it’s too late, it’s too late." With this, he highlights the necessity of awareness and proactive health measures.
Looking future forward, he stated, "I just have to keep fighting; it’s as simple as it is." Claes Malmberg's story serves as both an encouraging and cautionary tale, illustrating the continuous battle against cancer and the strength found within the struggle.
