Cirque Du Soleil’s OVO Show Returns For Dazzling Winter Tour

Restaged production kicks off with vibrant performances and new acts to mesmerize audiences.

Cirque du Soleil brings its beloved production, OVO, to the stage this winter, with performances lined up major cities after undergoing significant transformation. The stunning reimagining features colorful acrobatic performances inspired by the intriguing life of insects.

Premiering on December 27, 2024, at Montreal’s Bell Centre, OVO immerses audiences with various characters, eye-catching costumes, and heart-pounding aerial acrobatics, marking the first major tour since it was revamped after 15 years. "The show has gone back to its roots to reignite the excitement," said Lydia Harper, the artistic director of OVO. According to Harper, it reflects Cirque's commitment to providing families with unforgettable experiences, infused with whimsical elements kids adore.

OVO is more than just entertainment; it’s inspired by the beauty of life from the ground up—quite literally. Viewers will be treated to scenes depicting the fascinating ecosystem inhabited by insects where every act showcases the vibrancy of life, from the "Amazing Ants" to the "Crazy Crickets." Each performance is accompanied by Brazilian-inspired music and sets, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

The show has been noted for featuring cutting-edge performances, with new acts added including thrilling aerial net performances and dynamic routines involving Chinese poles. "It’s like lifting up a rock and seeing a world of insects," Harper elaborated, emphasizing the astoundingly creative approach to storytelling undertaken by the cast and crew.

Cirque du Soleil introduced OVO back in 2009, and the production has toured 40 countries, but this latest version offers something fresh for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Initially supported by the Québec government during the 450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s arrival, Cirque du Soleil has emerged as the largest contemporary circus producer globally, consistently pushing the boundaries of acrobatic artistry without employing animal acts.

Following its run in Montreal, OVO is set to travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, with six performances from January 9 to 12, 2025, at the DCU Center. The performances promise to engage families and audiences of all ages with spectacular visuals and heart-stopping stunts. Tickets start around $43, with various promotional offers available.

Harper assures fans of both returning iconic acts and added surprises, noting, "This show is perfect for families. We’ve got so many elements the kids really enjoy." This family-friendly approach is evident not just through the thematic elements but also through the talent behind it—over 100 performers will appear, all hailing from 15 nations, creating what Harper refers to as “a real family vibe.”

Cirque du Soleil has long engrossed audiences with unique storytelling and visuals, and OVO continues this legacy. With Harper at the artistic helm, the company aims to not only preserve the essence of OVO but also innovate as they move forward. The goal remains clear: to spread joy and creativity through breathtaking performances.

Fans and newcomers alike should act quickly to secure tickets as the demand runs high for this winter's show. This groundbreaking circus experience is not only about watching; it’s about feeling the vibrancy of life itself—as the insect world bursts onto the stage through the artistry of Cirque du Soleil.
