Christy Carlson Romano is on the mend following a frightening incident where she was shot in the face during her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday celebration. The former Disney Channel star, best known for her roles on Even Stevens and as the voice of Kim Possible, recounted the alarming event on her Instagram account, stating it occurred on February 7, 2025, when they were participating in a clay pigeon shooting activity.
Romano shared with her followers, "Yesterday was my husband's birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face." Her candid post detailed the chaos of the day, where she was significantly injured and faced potential dangers from the accident.
According to her account, Romano was hit in five places, with one fragment less than an inch from her right eye. "I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye," she explained, adding, "Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment)." These revelations indicated the gravity of the situation, raising concern among her fans.
Romano’s husband demonstrated immediate support, as she indicated, “he immediately sprung to action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital.” This harrowing experience intensified their bond, with Romano expressing, "With everything happening, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive." Her reflections on the incident drove home the precariousness of life, leading her to remind readers to appreciate their loved ones. "I saw my life flash before my eyes and I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."
Following the incident, Romano posted updates, sharing photos of her injuries and her progress. On February 9, she shared a light-hearted selfie, thumbs up under her pink beanie and with bandages below her eye, reinforcing her resilience and uplifting spirit. Her caption read, “Go team!” demonstrating her determination and recovery mindset.
Romano's husband, Brendan, also took to social media to express his love and gratitude for her survival. He noted, “I am so thankful you are alive. I wouldn't know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself.” He also humorously recounted how Romano managed to maintain her fierce attitude, showing her middle finger to the camera from her hospital bed and joking about wanting to document the moment. Brendan described her as “the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met.”
The couple, who married in December 2013, share two daughters, Isabella and Sophia. Romano’s reflections on her family during this traumatic episode highlighted her priorities and the support from her loved ones during recovery.
