"Expectations can be quite low because maybe people’s ideas of disability can be antiquated, or maybe they’ve just got no exposure, so this is, in a way, quite extreme, isn’t it? But I hope it goes some way to stretching people’s ideas of what is possible,” McCausland stated, underscoring his desire to reshape the narrative around disability.
Following the dance, he received high scores from the judges, earning 33 points. Judge Craig Revel Horwood described the moment of darkness during the routine as “poignant,” and fellow judge Shirley Ballas praised McCausland’s bravery, stating, "You have no fear, you come out every week with your heart on your sleeve, and you give us 100%."
