Chomps Recalls Beef Sticks Over Metal Fragments Discovery

Nearly 30,000 pounds of Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild recalled after concerns raised by consumer reports.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a significant recall on March 21, 2025, involving nearly 30,000 pounds of Chomps-branded ready-to-eat meat snacks. The recall centers on the Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild and Original Turkey Stick, which were found to potentially contain metal fragments. The decision to issue the recall was made after two consumers reported discovering metal pieces embedded in the beef sticks.

Idaho Smokehouse Partners, the manufacturer behind the iconic Chomps brand, proactively initiated this recall as a precautionary measure, prioritizing consumer health and safety. “The issue was discovered after Chomps investigated two consumer complaints reporting the potential presence of metal fragment in the meat stick product. There have been no reported adverse reactions or injuries,” a representative from Chomps stated in a public announcement.

The recalled products consist of 1.15-ounce vacuum-sealed packages of Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild, which were produced between January 13 and January 15, 2025. These products have an expiration date of February 10, 2026, and carry the lot code 25016 as well as the establishment number “6220A” printed directly on the packaging. Retail locations in California and Illinois are the only stores impacted by this recall, directing consumers who may have purchased these snacks to check their pantries.

According to FSIS guidelines, this recall falls under a Class I designation, the highest level of recall classification that indicates a reasonable probability of serious health consequences if the products are consumed. Although no injuries have yet been confirmed due to the consumption of the contaminated meat sticks, FSIS urges consumers to exercise caution. “Do not eat the recalled Chomps beef sticks. Dispose of the product or return it to the store for a refund. If you have concerns about injury or illness, contact a healthcare provider,” cautioned FSIS.

The affected Chomps snacks have attracted attention not only for their quality ingredients but also for their convenient snack appeal, thus making this recall more acute. The presence of metal fragments has raised critical concerns among health and safety advocates regarding manufacturing standards. “We are taking this action because we are committed to the highest food safety standards for the consumers of our products,” Idaho Smokehouse Partners emphasized.

Chomps has further clarified its commitment to consumer safety through immediate and long-term actions aimed at bolstering their food safety measures. “Quality and safety matter more to us than anything else, and we remain committed to doing right by our customers,” the brand further stated.

In light of the recall, consumers are advised to closely inspect their supplies for the potentially affected products. FSIS has provided resources and contact information for anyone with questions regarding the recall. The importance of monitoring food safety recalls cannot be understated, and this incident serves as a reminder of the USDA's vigilance in safeguarding public health. FSIS oversees meat, poultry, and egg product recalls, ensuring the integrity of food distributed across the nation. This process is paramount in preventing potential health risks stemming from contaminants in food products.

This recall highlights a unified effort by manufacturers and regulatory bodies to address safety concerns and protect consumers effectively and efficiently. As food safety continues to be a pressing issue, both consumers and producers must remain vigilant and proactive in monitoring the safety of the food products they consume and distribute.

In the meantime, those in possession of the recalled beef and turkey sticks are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines provided and ensure their household's safety. By staying informed and attentive, consumers can help manage food safety concerns as recalls like this can happen to any brand.
