Chinese Automakers Unveil New Vehicle Models And Technologies

Innovative designs and advanced features reveal the next era of automobile industry transformation.

Chinese automobile manufacturers are making significant strides with the release of new models, showcasing innovative technologies aimed at transforming the market both domestically and internationally. Recently, XPeng, Lynk & Co, BYD, and Deepal have introduced several new vehicles and technologies, promising to reshape consumer experiences.

On February 27, XPeng HT Aero announced its partnership with Xiangyuan Cultural Tourism, officially signing an agreement to collaborate on low-altitude tourism projects utilizing flying car technology. This collaboration aims to integrate eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicles with cultural tourism, developing innovative low-altitude economic models. Zhao Deli, founder of XPeng HT Aero, emphasized, "The mission of Xiangyuan Cultural Tourism of 'Cultural tourism and technology for a beautiful life' fully aligns with the goals of HT Aero." The companies plan to create flying camps and training bases, preparing resources to tap the trillion-yuan market for low-altitude economies.

Liu Jiangtao, chairman of Xiangyuan General Aviation, credited their new partnership, stating, "Since its establishment, Xiangyuan General Aviation has rapidly built up a large professional team... becoming a leader in low-altitude tourism." This cooperation is anticipated to catalyze the commercialization of flying camps across the country.

Meanwhile, XPeng also announced the successful completion of winter testing for its first mass-production model, the "Land Aircraft Carrier." Conducted from December 2024 to February 2025, these extensive tests included 67 trials on icy terrains, accumulating more than 900 hours of extreme testing. The vehicle boasts impressive specifications, utilizing a hexaxle powertrain capable of accelerating to 100 km/h within five seconds. Despite weighing over four tons, the vehicle offers good maneuverability and off-road capabilities. With the construction of its manufacturing base commencing in October 2024, XPeng aims to leverage cutting-edge conveyor lines to mass-produce flying cars globally by the third quarter of 2025.

Turning to Europe, Lynk & Co has recently revealed its Lynk & Co 08 EM-P model set to launch on the continent with deliveries starting in June 2025. Priced at €52,995 (approximately 404,000 yuan), this model will be the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with over 200 km of electric range, based on WLTP standards. Initially developing its presence through models like the Lynk & Co 01 EM-P and the Z20, Lynk & Co is focused on increasing its brand recognition, which now exceeds 15% among European consumers.

According to the company, the vehicle's aesthetics merge urban design with functionality, featuring advanced technologies, such as the Lynk EM-P® intelligent hybrid system, providing high power alongside energy efficiency. Known for its stylish interior, it includes luxury enhancements like Harman Kardon's sound system with 23 speakers, supporting functions such as heating and ventilation for comfort.

BYD is also making headlines with its upcoming Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8, slated for showcase on March 2. This vehicle will feature the latest autonomous driving capabilities developed alongside DJI, enhancing user experience significantly. The autonomous version retains the general design of the standard version but includes increased height for housing the drone, eleving it by 125mm to comply with technological enhancements. Bob 8 will leverage sophisticated sensors and software to support high-level intelligent driving autonomy, including highway and urban autopilot functionalities. With rapid developments, the hybrid platform allows the vehicle to hit 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds and boasts 1200 km of combined range.

Finally, Deepal announced the premiere of its DEEPAL S07 model targeting the Middle Eastern and African markets. Officially entering the UAE market, this launch symbolizes Changan's expansion strategy, representing not merely another product but the initiation of new electric ecosystems. Officials highlighted plans for additional models, including the S05 compact SUV and the E07 multi-functional SUV, set to follow the DEEPAL S07.

With every model introduced, these companies are pushing the envelope of automotive technology, focusing heavily on electric and autonomous driving vehicles, aiming not just for innovation but to secure substantial market shares across various product categories. The developments signify changing consumer preferences for technological advancements and are redefining the automotive industry's future.
