Chilly Winds Bring Cool Temperatures To Philadelphia

As windy conditions continue, temperatures dip and later rebound in the upcoming weekend.

Gusty winds will make cool temperatures feel even colder in the Philadelphia region on Friday. A cold front overnight dropped temps into the high 30s, with a few 40s, to start our day. Winds out of the northwest are sending feels-like temperatures in the low 30s. As the storm system from Thursday night moves out and an area of high pressure centered over the Lower Mississippi Valley moves in, Friday will feature plenty of sunshine, but also windy and cooler conditions. Winds will remain out of the northwest from 20-30 mph with gusts between 35-45 mph. Meanwhile, temperatures will slowly warm into the low-middle 50s, but thanks to the gusty conditions, feels-like temperatures will remain in the 40s throughout the afternoon. The winds will begin to relax Friday evening as temperatures gradually cool back to near the 40s under mostly clear skies by Saturday morning.

Overall, the weekend looks OK—it'll just be a little warmer on Saturday than on Sunday. Saturday will feature high temperatures in the low 60s with increasing clouds through the second half of the day. The clouds will be associated with a relatively weak cold front that'll sweep through the region Saturday night. Temperatures Sunday morning will return to around the freezing mark before attempting to rebound back into the low 50s Sunday afternoon under mostly sunny skies.

Near-term forecasts indicate that next week will feature somewhat of an unsettled pattern with rain likely on Monday and then again on Wednesday. Meteorologists are keeping a close eye on the weather conditions for any changes that might affect plans for the upcoming week.

Amidst this windy atmosphere, the weather has already shown some record-breaking patterns in 2025. Winds have blown through Philadelphia with gusts reaching 50 mph on four occasions this year, a notable statistic that is being discussed in meteorological circles. The National Weather Service has provided insights indicating that gusts of 40 mph are probable on Friday alone. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Philadelphia has experienced gusts of 35 mph or higher on 25 days this year, more than in any early-year periods in at least the last 20 years.

Interestingly, while reports are being shared about the extraordinary wind occurrences, they stem from atmospheric conditions where systems have been moving briskly, causing the chaos of wind to create notable gusts. The forecasts also detail that temperatures will vary quite a bit this Sunday, dipping down to freezing at times, and then rebounding back to the 50s later on.

For those interested in baseball, the weather situation is also essential news, especially with the Phillies’ season opener against the Washington Nationals coming on March 27. With forecasts potentially pointing towards colder conditions and even a chance of wet snowflakes, the weather adds another layer of excitement and unpredictability leading right into the baseball season.

In summary, the Philadelphia region can expect a rollercoaster of weather conditions over the next several days, including a mix of windy and cool temperatures, clear skies transitioning to cloudy conditions, and the possibility of spring showers creeping in next week. Residents are advised to plan accordingly.

Ultimately, as spring approaches, Philadelphia's weather is proving to be capricious and mighty windy, reminding us all of the unpredictability that this season often brings.
