Children Discover Music During National Kids Music Week

Interactive family concerts and lessons inspire creativity and exploration through the theme of dreams.

HEERHUGOWAARD - The national Kindermuziekweek—Children's Music Week—is set to take place from April 4 to April 13, 2025, across the Netherlands. This event invites children aged 0 to 12 years to engage with live music through various fun and interactive activities held at theaters, libraries, schools, and childcare centers.

During this week, educators from Cool kunst en cultuur will leave their music studios to bring music lessons directly to the younger audience at various locales. On Sunday, April 6, starting at 11:00 AM, the Accordeonensemble Dijk en Waard will host the interactive family concert titled 'Het Grote Berenconcert,' aimed at children aged 3 to 6 years.

The annual Kindermuziekweek aims to introduce children to the wondrous world of music, allowing them to experience it through play. This year, the theme is 'Dromen,' which translates to 'Dreams.' The theme encompasses dreamy music and lyrics fulfilling the dreams one might only have. Music, much like dreams, takes you to different realms—transcending borders and even venturing deep within oneself to discover both familiar and unfamiliar feelings.

The lessons will commence with short musical introductions where educators will present various instruments. Children will be encouraged to participate actively, singing along, trying out rhythms, and experiencing the instruments up close. Music instructors aim to demonstrate how music can bring feelings and imagination to life, making it accessible and engaging.

Not merely confined to elementary school students, the initiative also extends to the tiniest tots at daycare centers, where the emphasis will be on listening, moving, and exploring sound. Through simple musical games and interactive activities, toddlers will be immersed in a sensory-rich world of sound and rhythm.

The performance of 'Het Grote Berenconcert' invites families to join Bruno, the cheerful and curious bear, whose special day is his birthday! What could be more delightful than celebrating with a grand and festive picnic set against the backdrop of nature? This heartwarming tale interwoven with music, excitement, and joy promises to be the highlight of the weekend for young audiences and their parents alike.

Led by Bianca IJdema, the concert encourages children (aged 3 to 6 years) along with their (grand)parents to take part in this playful, interactive performance where they can listen, sing, and join the fun. Such experiences not only entertain but also inspire young minds to appreciate the art of music.

More information about the Kindermuziekweek, the concert, and other related activities can be found on the official website of Cool kunst en cultuur: www.coolkunstencultuur.nl.

This initiative by Cool kunst en cultuur is more than just musical lessons; it endeavors to make children experience how music can inspire creativity and emotional expression. Engaging children at such formative years serves to instill early appreciation and excitement for music, potentially fostering the next generation of musicians and music lovers. With the spotlight on connection through sound, the event aims to awaken dreams and imagination through the joyful experience of music.
