Cher Transitioning To Fiber Optic Internet Services

Bouygues Telecom leads push for faster, sustainable connectivity in the Cher department as ADSL faces discontinuation.

In a significant move to upgrade internet connectivity, Bouygues Telecom is spearheading the transition from ADSL to fiber optic services in the Cher department of France. This change promises to enhance speed and reduce energy consumption, placing the operator at the forefront of modern telecommunications.

As the copper networks serving ADSL are phased out in several municipalities across Cher, thousands of households face the abrupt cut-off of their ADSL services within the next few months. Bouygues Telecom reports that all municipalities in the area will be impacted by 2030, encouraging residents to transition to the fiber optic infrastructure as soon as possible.

According to the French regulatory authorities (ARCEP), the benefits of fiber are significant. Fiber optic connections consume four times less electricity than their ADSL counterparts, which not only improves performance but also contributes to a more sustainable energy footprint. "Les offres pour la fibre optique répondent à chaque besoin et ne sont pas plus chères qu'avec l’ADSL. Notre accompagnement est clé en main, jusqu’au raccordement de la fibre," explains Lola Chavigny, responsible for local commercialization at Bouygues Telecom. This assistance includes the cancellation of existing ADSL subscriptions, takes care of any associated costs, and facilitates seamless installation of new fiber connections.

Notably, more than 200,000 homes in the Cher region are already eligible for Bouygues Telecom's fiber service, and now, with the recent launch of a new brand called B.iG in October 2024, families can take advantage of budget-friendly package offers designed to cater to their specific needs. These offerings promise greater convenience for families who may not live in the same residence or maintain different banking details.

In addition, Bouygues Telecom has rolled out its B&YOU Pure fibre offer, aimed at consumers seeking high-speed internet without extraneous features. This plan is particularly groundbreaking as it represents the first instance where customers can acquire ultra-fast internet without being tied down to a television or landline telephone service, which many consumers have deemed unnecessary. Before its launch, research indicated that about 22% of households with fiber did not use the television decoder provided by their internet service provider. Furthermore, only 16% used their landline phone service daily over the past six months, prompting a shift to provide more streamlined services.

The B&YOU Pure fibre offer boasts impressive specifications, offering subscribers speeds of up to 8 Gb/s alongside Wi-Fi 6E capability, allowing for seamless connectivity throughout homes. An optional Wi-Fi repeater can be included for an additional fee of just 4€/month, ensuring robust network coverage in larger spaces. Remarkably, this service is competitively priced at only 23.99€/month, with no commitments or long-term contracts, thereby lowering the barrier for residents in Cher to upgrade their internet connections.

New customers also stand to benefit from complimentary setup and installation fees upon opting for the B&YOU Pure fibre service. As an added incentive, those who subscribe can access the 5G B&YOU plan, which offers 100 GB of data at just 0.99€/month for the first year, significantly reduced from its original price of 13.99€/month.

This strategic move by Bouygues Telecom not only meets the burgeoning demand for high-speed internet in the region but also ensures that households are equipped with the necessary tools for the digital age. As the last remnants of ADSL are phased out in the coming years, residents are encouraged to embrace fiber optics. Failure to do so could soon result in service interruptions.

Ultimately, the shift to fiber optic services reflects broader trends in internet consumption and consumer preference in France. With organizations like Bouygues Telecom leading the way, there’s never been a better time for residents in Cher to connect to the future of internet services. The benefits are clear: faster, more reliable internet that supports daily needs efficiently and sustainably.
