Chavo Guerrero Jr. Teams Up With Spielberg On Wrestling Film

Guerrero shares insights into his collaboration with the legendary filmmaker and reveals his ongoing passion for wrestling.

Former WWE Cruiserweight and Tag Team Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. recently expressed excitement over his collaboration with legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, revealing that he had the opportunity to work on a wrestling-related film alongside him. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Guerrero Jr. described his amazement at discovering Spielberg's deep interest in professional wrestling, which he conveyed during their recent project, details of which remain under wraps.

"I just finished working with Steven Spielberg. Just finished... the movie is still not out yet, and he was a wrestling fan," Guerrero Jr. remarked. As their conversation unfolded, the two bonded over classic wrestling tales, exchanging fond memories of figures like Andre the Giant and events at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Guerrero Jr. highlighted, "We were exchanging Andre the Giant stories and when he used to watch wrestling down at the (Grand) Olympic Auditorium. You know, John Tolos, The Golden Greek, used to be one of his favorites, and we’re talking about all of this stuff. These are people that I grew up with... to have that rapport with Spielberg... He was a fan because he got it. He understood the entertainment value of pro wrestling." This bonding over shared interests showcases the sport's widespread appeal, transcending generational gaps, especially among influential personalities in Hollywood.

Adding to his busy schedule in the entertainment industry, Guerrero Jr. continuously finds himself as a sought-after consultant for wrestling-related projects in Hollywood. Previously, he expressed fulfillment in bridging the worlds of wrestling and cinema, which can often be perceived as separate realms.

Guerrero Jr.'s achievements don’t just stop at film, as he continues to remain active within the wrestling circuit. His recent activities include a return to the ring as part of TNA iMPACT's First Cla$$ Penthouse segment, where he participated alongside A.J. Francis and K.C. Navarro. His upcoming matches will lead into a six-man tag with Laredo Kid and Octagon Jr., all of which he looks forward to.

Reflecting on this recent return to his roots, Guerrero Jr. shared, "It was really, really cool and to see all my old pals. You know, Santino (Marella), Nic Nemeth, his brother Ryan (Nemeth). So many guys that I just... Tommy Dreamer, Gail Kim. It was very, very cool to see my old pals." His enthusiasm towards engaging with both former colleagues and new talent demonstrates his passion for pro wrestling remains alive and well.

Guerrero Jr. noted how he views engaging with younger wrestlers as an opportunity to foster growth—learning alongside them while imparting his own experience in the ring. He said, "It was really cool to get him and K.C. Navarro together. I’ve known them, but just not really ever worked with them... Their interview segment... the First Cla$$ Penthouse, and you know, I love getting in the ring with these young guys and you learn from them and teach them and just, you know, everything that pro wrestling is which is improv.” His ability to adapt and thrive in various wrestling environments showcases Guerrero Jr.'s versatility as a performer.

Moreover, this resurgence into the wrestling scene follows his previous appearance in February, where he was part of an AIW promotion event, maintaining a steady presence in independent wrestling. His enduring involvement reflects a commitment to the sport that shaped his foundation.

Moreover, at the heart of Guerrero Jr.'s journey lies an appreciation for the wrestling community, which he cherishes as part of his identity. Compounding with this is the respect from his peers, including WWE Hall of Famer Jacqueline. She praised him for his professionalism during their feud in 2004, where she captured the Cruiserweight Championship. Jacqueline expressed her admiration for Guerrero Jr., stating her respect for him as a consummate professional to work with during that storyline.

As both a filmmaker and professional wrestler, Guerrero Jr. stands at a unique intersection of sports entertainment and cinematic storytelling. His collaboration with Spielberg adds a fascinating layer to this dialogue, emphasizing the cultural significance of wrestling in popular media.

With upcoming projects and matches on the horizon, Chavo Guerrero Jr. continues to evolve as a multifaceted figure in both wrestling and Hollywood.
