Charlie Woods Scores First Career Hole-in-One At PNC Championship

The young golfer makes history with his perfect 7-iron shot on the iconic course.

Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, made headlines on Sunday as he recorded his first career hole-in-one during the final round of the PNC Championship, marking a milestone moment for the young golfer. Playing at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, the 15-year-old accomplished the remarkable feat on the par-3 fourth hole, hitting the perfect 7-iron from 176 yards away.

It was during this pivotal moment of the tournament, where Team Woods was vying for their first championship title, when Charlie took his swing with confidence. "It was a perfect 7-iron, so I just kind of hit it … little cut 7," he said shortly after the successful shot, capturing the excitement and pride of the accomplishment.

The ball initially landed about six feet left of the hole before rolling majestically to settle right at the bottom of the cup. Charlie, who had been staring at the shot, was momentarily caught up in disbelief, soon sharing the joyous moment with his father. Tiger Woods, who experienced his first hole-in-one during his pro debut at the Greater Milwaukee Open back in 1996, was visibly elated. His reaction, captured on camera, highlighted his thrill as he joyfully told Charlie, "He’s buying," referring to what presumably would be sodas.

To which Charlie quipped back, "I’m broke," adding to the heartwarming exchange between father and son, which perfectly encapsulated the familial bond they share on the golf course.

With this ace, Team Woods surged to the lead at the PNC Championship, moving to 17-under—a shot clear of their closest competitors, including Bernhard Langer and his son Jason Langer, as well as the Singh duo of Vijay and Qass. The event features parent-child teams competing against each other, making Charlie's hole-in-one even more significant as his father, Tiger Woods, looked on with pride.

Prior to Charlie's huge moment, Team Woods had opened the final round with two straight birdies before facing par on the par-5 third hole. The energy was palpable as they approached the fourth hole—a moment they have surely been preparing for, and one where Charlie's skill and nerve shone through brightly.

For Tiger Woods, watching his son perform at such high levels has been nothing short of rewarding. NBC’s on-course reporter Bones Mackay remarked, "I’d never seen Tiger happier on the golf course," reiterate the emotional significance of the occasion as the elder Woods celebrated alongside his son.

This wasn't just Charlie's success, as it brought back memories of Tiger's illustrious career—his chasing down records, making memorable plays, and enjoying cherished moments with his own father. The bond they share within their love for golf showcases the beauty of family tradition, carried on to the next generation.

Although this was the first hole-in-one for Little Woods at PNC, he was not the only one stealing the spotlight. Less than an hour after Charlie’s ace, Paddy Harrington, son of golf great Padraig Harrington, also recorded his first hole-in-one at the eighth hole. Describing his own experience, Paddy mentioned how they had initially planned to use a 5-iron due to wind conditions, but decided on the 6-iron at the last moment. "Last minute, we changed to 6(-iron), I just hit it pure … it was right on it, and it faded lovelyinto the hole," he joyously exclaimed after his successful shot.

Padraig added to the excitement by sharing, "I’ve never been as excited," showcasing the thrill shared by fathers and sons alike on this magical Sunday afternoon at the PNC Championship.

Charlie Woods and Tiger Woods' pursuit of their first championship title at the PNC Championship remains alive following this exciting round, and it brought joy not just to them, but also to the crowd and viewers watching at home. The camaraderie between father and son, coupled with their shared passion for golf, continues to pave the way for special moments like these to be cherished for years to come.
