The Military Literature Festival (MLF) Organising Committee has announced the eighth edition of the festival scheduled for Chandigarh, focusing on the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War. This year’s edition seeks to honor the bravery exhibited by young officers and soldiers who were awarded the Param Vir Chakra for their valor during the 1999 conflict, reflecting the spirit and determination of the commanders and troops who faced the perilous conditions on the battlefield.
Kicking off on Sunday, November 17, the festival will begin with a heartfelt tribute to the Kargil martyrs at Chandigarh’s Regional War Memorial located in Sector 2. This solemn ceremony will be led by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria. Following this poignant event, participants will engage in the 'Bravehearts Ride', a motorcycle rally featuring 1,286 bikers from across the region. The rally is not just about the thrill of riding but symbolizes courage, sacrifice, and the valor of the Kargil heroes. It will be flagged off near the Chandigarh Club and will conclude its route at the Khetarpal Officers Mess and Institute, Chandimandir.
The significance of this rally extends beyond honoring soldiers; it serves as a platform to promote patriotism and encourages the youth to embrace physical well-being. The ride also aims to raise awareness against the vices of drugs, crime, and terrorism, promoting positive values among the Tricity residents.
The MLF is scheduled to culminate with the main event happening on the weekend of November 30 and December 1 at the Lake Club, with engaging panel discussions covering military strategy, historical accounts, and contemporary defense matters. This year boasts notable thinkers, writers, and military analysts who will participate, bringing their insights to topics of national importance.
Aside from these discussions, festival-goers can expect various book stalls, cultural performances, and displays of military equipment—all curated to deepen the public's engagement with India's military heritage and its current defense issues. A highlight of the event will be the return of the Clarion Call theatre, blending information and entertainment, offering attendees thought-provoking experiences.
With the festival coinciding with Nehru’s birth anniversary and Children’s Day, the organizers emphasized the importance of technology as both a safeguarder and enhancer of the future of the nation’s youth. The MLF committee expressed its gratitude to the Punjab Government for its financial backing, and thanked the Western Command and the Chandigarh Administration for their continued support. They urged the citizens of Tricity to participate, join the celebrations, and honor India’s military legends.
Overall, the Military Literature Festival presents itself as an excellent opportunity for the public to reflect on the sacrifices made for the country, celebrate its triumphs, and engage with the stories of courage and valor from the Kargil War and beyond. The festival is a reminder of the enduring spirit and commitment of those who serve and protect the nation, and it fosters a sense of unity and pride among the populace.
