The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is gearing up to announce the results for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations for the academic year 2024-25, with over 42 lakh students eagerly awaiting their scores. The exams, which took place from February 15 to April 4, 2025, were conducted in a single morning shift from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM for Class 10 and until 12:30 PM for Class 12. While the official result date has yet to be confirmed, trends from previous years suggest that results may be released between May 7 and May 12, 2025. Last year, the results were announced on May 13, and in 2023, they were declared on May 12.
Students will be able to access their results on several official platforms, including the CBSE's websites—cbse.gov.in, cbseresults.nic.in, and results.cbse.nic.in—as well as through the DigiLocker and UMANG app. To check their results, students will need to enter their roll number, school number, and admit card ID. The marksheets will display important details such as the student’s name, subject-wise marks, total marks, and qualifying status.
In 2024, the overall pass percentage for Class 10 was 93.60%, while Class 12 saw a pass rate of 87.98%. Girls outperformed boys in both classes, with a pass percentage of 94.75% for girls in Class 10 compared to 92.71% for boys, and 91.52% for girls in Class 12 against 85.12% for boys. The trend of girls outperforming boys is expected to continue in 2025, with projections indicating a pass percentage for Class 12 around 87-88%.
This year, the CBSE has implemented some changes to the post-result process. Students can now obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for verification or re-evaluation. Previously, the process required students to apply for verification first, which has now been reversed to improve transparency. The application window for verification and re-evaluation is expected to open in late May or early June 2025.
For students who do not pass, compartment exams will be held from July 15 to July 22, 2025. Those failing in more than two subjects will have to repeat the year. The results for these compartment exams are anticipated to be declared in August 2025.
The CBSE board has also ensured that the evaluation process for the answer sheets is nearing completion, with a senior official stating that results may not be released until after the weekend of May 4, 2025. Students are encouraged to regularly check the official CBSE portals for updates regarding the exact date and time of the result announcement.
In the context of increasing enrolment, 24.12 lakh students appeared for the Class 10 exams, while 17.88 lakh students participated in the Class 12 exams. This reflects a growing confidence in the CBSE system, with the number of candidates increasing from 22.51 lakh in 2024 to 24.12 lakh in 2025 for Class 10 alone.
As for the performance metrics, the pass percentages for the CBSE exam have shown a gradual decline in post-pandemic years. Class 10 saw a drop from 94.40% in 2022 to 93.60% in 2024, and Class 12 dropped from 92.71% to 87.98% during the same period. However, with reports indicating that this year's exam papers were of easy to moderate difficulty, expectations for a strong overall performance remain high.
Students should also note that while the online marksheets are provisional, they must collect the official, signed documents from their respective schools later. These original certificates are crucial for future academic admissions and should be stored carefully.
To facilitate access to results, CBSE has collaborated with government IT platforms to ensure smooth result delivery through multiple channels, including SMS and IVRS. Students can check their results via SMS by sending their roll number to the designated number, which will be announced closer to the result date.
As anticipation builds among students and parents alike, the CBSE is expected to release detailed statistics regarding pass percentages, regional performance, and gender-wise data on its official portals once the results are published. This data will provide valuable insights into the overall performance of students across different regions and demographics.
In summary, the CBSE Class 10 and 12 results for 2025 are highly anticipated, with students preparing to check their scores in the coming days. With a focus on transparency and fairness in the evaluation process, the board aims to ensure that all students receive the recognition they deserve for their hard work. The expected timeline for results falls between May 7 and May 12, 2025, and students are advised to stay updated through the official CBSE channels.
